Marink Reedijk Appointed Manager of Hibernian FC

A few interesting points around the difference between the managers.

Hibs have been putting in extra shifts in a bid to adapt to Marink Reedijk’s up-tempo style, with the Dutch coach introducing a demanding training schedule during his first weeks at the helm. And it’s about to get even tougher as they head into a crucial week of league and cup action.
New boss Reedijk works on a four-day build-up to games, with no break in between. And he’s ordered players to report to Hibernian Training Centre on the day after matches for recovery sessions. On a normal Saturday-to-Saturday programme, then, players will get just one day – Monday – off.
Under previous manager David Gray, Hibs worked to a more standardised UK model of training. Allowed to recover at home the day after a Saturday game, players would report back to HTC for sessions on a Monday and Tuesday, be given the Wednesday off, then return for more work on a Thursday and Friday.
Reedijk doesn’t like an interruption to his training cycle, especially as he’s looking to embed so many new ideas in a team undergoing a complete change of philosophy. He believes that the four-day block gives his players the best chance of learning the lessons needed to drag Hibs away from their current position at the bottom of the Scottish Premiership. Although players were at HTC for recovery work on Sunday, less than 24 hours after a demoralising home loss to Falkirk that saw Reedijk’s men slip to the foot of the table, the past couple of days have offered some respite from the new rota.
With this weekend’s visit of Celtic pushed back to Sunday to allow for the title holders’ European involvement, the gaffer was able to give his team Monday and today off.

I get the feeling that Marink is a really really intense bloke. Not really in a bad way for a manager. A 34 year old coming into a new job like Hibs and making the training rota much more intense is quite ballsy. I think he'll go on to be a good manager just hope he gets a chance to show what he can do with us
Seems to me he's spotted a weakness in our squad (not fuckin group) and is trying to sort it out

I had a feeling they would be enjoying it and the rumours of discontent were just rumours.

Being made to attend free hospitality at Hibs. What's not to like 😆
From what I’ve gathered
1: they would fend for themselves pre match
2: they’re now in at EM 6 days a week
I’m liking what I’m being told it can only be good!!!

It sounds like the players were getting it easy under the old regime. No wonder they were blowing out of their arses during games.

Sounds like a guy trying to create a culture at the club.
Work hard together, prepare together, meals etc.

Tbh it's what you want to hear?
I'm all for binning anyone and everyone who doesn't get on board.
Yeah, and it doesn't matter who that is [including Malky MacKay]

Totally agree..

Boyle spitting the dummy? Bye son.

Boyle only stayed because no one wanted him imo. Hes not the player he used to be, can you prove me wrong Martin?

Any alleged player "revolt" smacks of what went on under Collins.
Aye, coz they didnt like a bit of hard work.

Hard work is doing 8 hour shifts to pay for a 425 quid hibs season ticket and not leaving yersel with much.

If anyone is on a revolt get them tae fuck imo.

You get the best of facilities, gyms etc and just need to play a sport. Buck up or ship out, simple.

Collins had the right idea. Petrie should have sacked every one o them moaning.

Agree with all the sentiments here about changing the culture and those not on board should go… the problem with all of that is trying to do it in October. Too much change too soon never works, and a “my way or the highway” approach is frankly dreadful people management. Football management isn’t all that unique - there’s no workplace where a new manager can walk in and get rid of everyone because they don’t like the new way of working. They have to get people onside.

The other thing is that this team ultimately had two decent seasons together. It wasn’t a disaster under David Gray, it didn’t need a hard reset - it needed a back-to-basics approach, the confidence galvanised… then a gradual shift to Reedjik’s ideal way of working once there’s a few results on the board.

We’re bottom of the table, he cannot afford to fuck about. I’ve the feeling it’s a right guy wrong time situation, but I hope I’m wrong.

Not sure I agree with your first paragraph. The time for change is never absolutely right, you change when and because you need to. Problems tend to happen because managers don't recognise that change is needed or ignore the evidence and the problem.

A new manager is an ideal opportunity to introduce change. Everyone expects it to happen, some will accept it immediately others won't and it will take bit longer for the penny to drop for those. If you try to ease it in you will have lost the opportunity and will never regain it. A slow staged transition is often confusing and can leave elements of the old way that you didn't want. Key thing is for the manager to speak to the players and make sure they understand what is required of them.

What is clear from the last few years is that change is needed, we're bottom of the table because what has been happening has not worked.

I guess time will tell and like you I hope it works.
