Love Scottish Football is currently trending on twitter after Barry Hearn's comments about Scottish football feeling too sorry for itself.

Got me thinking, what are some of you favourite things about Scottish football?

I'll kick off with the old 'do it the hard way' mentality. Stephen McManus's 97th minute winner after being 1-0 down at Hampden against Leichtenstein comes to mind.

Or a simple half time pie and bovril on a cold Tuesday night at Easter Road.

I watch quite a lot of football from other leagues - when I'm in the pub, quite a lot.

Scottish football isn't half as bad as the dormers and gloomers, Scottish football is fucked, scaremongers would have you believe.

In amongst that Hibs are really making a comeback :-)

Scottish Football and those who talk and write about it here, tend to fall into the age old trap of comparing it to English Football. There is no comparison and there never has been. English football has always been of a higher standard and so it should be as England has a population 10 times the size of Scotland's and has millions of pounds pouring into it every year. Comparing our league and football with the likes of Denmark or Norway would probably be a better comparison and in that regard our football is nowhere near as bad as people make out. Of course there is and always will be room for improvement, but I get annoyed when people constantly have a go at the game in Scotland.

Other than when Hibs are on, I don't watch any Scottish Football matches including the national team. It's just dross. Even compared to just 5-10 years ago, it's gone downhill so rapid and the attendances at matches all over Scotland reflect that.

Tell that to Jim Baxter, Dennis Law, Kenny Dalglish, Joe Baker, the Famous Five, the Terrible Trio, Celtic 1967 and the Scotland World Cup Squads of 1977 and 1978. Sky TV changed English football.

I wouldn't disagree with you there....Scotland certainly had a golden era in the 1960's and 70's and was still producing the odd world class player into the 80's. Sky TV and it's millions are certainly one of the main reasons why the gap has widened so significantly since then as good players will always want to go where the money is and that is England. We produce a few good young players and they are barely into the first team when they are off down south and so the standard continues to decline up here. I just don't think the game in Scotland is that bad all things considered when you take into account the size and population of the country we are, and compares favourably with similar sized countries in northern Europe. I would argue that English football has always been more attractive for good Scottish players because of the crowds and money which were always bigger than up here. The difference now a I said is the money is so huge down there that Scottish players are leaving earlier in the post Bosman era and with the almighty power and influence of agents and therefore the standard in a smaller country like Scotland will inevitably be affected.

Coaching (kids and adults) and indoor playing facilities in Scotland are very poor and this is where radical change and proper investment has to happen if the game in Scotland is to get better. We have to get more kids playing the game with proper qualified coaches guiding and monitoring them and no parents shouting and cursing on the sidelines. I've said for years I would scrap competitive football for kids up to the age of 16 and concentrate fully on technique, ball control, passing and making sure all kids were comfortable on the ball and could kick with both feet. Far too many Mourinho and Ferguson wannabe's on the sidelines who are always going to want their kids to be playing and be winning all the time. Get proper bairns coaches fully trained up and take the pressure off the laddies by making sure they can just do the basics from a young age without the influence and pressure of well-meaning but misguided mothers and fathers putting their tuppence worth in. I do have a lot of admiration for parents who are interested and give of their time to watch and help their lads in their game, I just wish they would just take a step back at times and let the proper coaches do their job.

You may not like Barry Hearn but he's 100% correct about our game.
Scottish football is ill and those in charge are dinosaurs.

Absolutely. The sad thing is, the only people who can't see that the game is ill are those said dinosaurs.
