Little things that annoy you.

Mine just fucking mewls all day long.

Yowls away - I feed him.

Yowls away again. I let him out the house, and then back in, after the two minutes it takes him to decide this really wasn’t what he was after to begin with.

Yowls away again - I pick him up for a cuddle, and then - like a newborn - the bastard takes the hump if I sit down while doing so. No I’ve got to stand up, or even walk around, with the princeling in arm, to be granted a moments peace. And then he gets bored of that and I put him down.

And he yowls again.

A rescue cat an all. I think our problem EGers, perhaps lies herein. These cats are members of the British underclass, brimming with entitlement and not prepared to lift a finger, unless some foreign cat shows up in the garden.

Pedigrees next time round, I think is the lesson.
Quite harsh putting him down like 😩😡

You've just not come to terms with being a cat servant yet, M.

My cat is a great hunter, he mainly hunts dogs. He's a Bengal cat, part bred from wild Asian Leopard Cats and has a bit of a fierce side as a few canines have found out to their chagrine when they come near his/my territory.

I'm alright with that.
Mine used to be a wee scrapper. When he was little more than a kitten I used to race outside fearful of finding him reduced to a couple of tufts as he battled with foxes. Took me a while to catch on that he was wrecking them not the other way around. My garden used to be a major fox hangout, but not since he arrived.

He’s slippin’ though and they know it. Summer last year we saw him and a fox sleeping in the sun not far from each other. Either it’s old sparring partners in detente, or - and I think more likely - they know his claws ain’t what they used to be, and he does too.

In principle I have sympathy for him. He’s turned into a grumpy auld man, and who am I to criticise him there :giggle

However he’s also turned into a screechy campus protestor in the way he goes about it. I’m going to have to sit down and discuss growing old gracefully with him.

In many ways I think his temperament would be be suited to the Bounce. Please consider an introduction.

Wasps....I'm petrified....can't even go near a dead one.....badminton racket beside the sofa all summer just in case one needs sliced like garlic...
No use to anyone, these fearsome beasts....

Wasps are like hun orcs. They are Jane's hunts.

Up a ladder painting windaes and a bee will come along. Have a wee look and go.

But those fuckers. Try hitting them with the brush the jump oot the way. Paint goes over the glass on the stonework.

Then they attack again. It's a constant war against them.

Same.

Once baled out of a moving car when one of the wee bastards flew in the window.

Which was unfortunate for my passengers.

Did the same when I drove up to Aberdeen for the first game of the season in the late eighties. Lovely day and the perfect conditions to roll the roof off the 2CV and enjoy the journey. Picked up my pal and drove down a country road with overhanging trees both sides.
One of the buggers dropped onto my leg so hands off the wheel and bailed out before the car had stopped.
Got stung in the throat once too.
Hate the vengeful scumbags.

Last time I was stung was through sagely advising my sprogs and nephews at a bbq, that ‘as long as you leave them alone they’ll not bother you’. This was while attempting to move a glass one was in which had the wee uns all in a lather.

You can picture the scene. I place my hand over the glass to move it, issue the above piety, wasp is having none of it, the kids are then treated to my expanded vocabulary and less zen like sentiments.

Hornets. But they are the SAS of stingy insect things.

Went on family holiday to Spain with future in-laws, nice villa with pool but came with wasps as an added extra.
My father-in-law to be was obviously disappointed in my behaviour as I couldn't sit still and basically threw myself in the pool every time one of the stripey wee stinging fuckers came within about ten feet of me.

"Look. If you just ignore them, they won't bother you. If you make a fuss then that's when they will get angry".

Wise words.

But not totally accurate, as the relaxed gent lay back on his sun bed and one of the winged assassins flew up his swimming shorts and stung him several times in his unmentionables.
He spent the afternoon having his bits iced by future mother-in-law.

"Take away the pain but leave the swelling" we heard him say.

All true.

Apart from the last bit.

Like a more horrific version of my own misguided DEI approach to wasps.

I'd have thought that the least of your troubles though Doc. If you were visiting Spain that long ago, wasn't there a bloody war on?

Wait until they're gone and we'll find out how useful they were. Tons of other pest insects taken care of every year by the wasps but they're definitely on the decline
Thankfully someone on here appreciates the work of a wasp.
I used to execute them like most folk do until I found out their role in the global ecosystem. Now I just capture them and pop them back outside.
Been stung loads of times. Just dab some vinegar on the sting site and you’re sorted.

I nominate you for the bravest on the bounce award 👏👍😜

Use, in this country, of the word “gotten” instead of “got”. The bastardisation of our language in recent years is getting worser.
'Gotten' was used exclusively until a couple of centuries ago then the Americans took it with them and we went to 'got' in Britain. Now looks like history is repeating itself.

Plus ça change,...

Pet peeve of mine too. Seems to be prevalent among football pundits and Weedgies. Mixing up perfect and imperfect tense. My former boss used to do it all the time. I done. No, you did, or you have done.
It is prevalent in many Scots dialects of English. And many other 'wrong' past participles along with it. Strong verbs from Germanic roots. Doric also rich in them! (He's drove home, I've saw him, she's gave him a quid etc....)
