Nothing on the other threads, so...

No "Group of Death" - having five pots does that.

Having #1 & #2 seeds and everyone else in an open draw was more fun.

It's a total pile o shite.
😂...as many St.Mirren fans commented when losing on penalty kicks to Arbroath in their opener last July.

I prefer the groups to straight knock-out ties that were scarcely any better attended. For those who fancy a day out in decent weather, a couple of July trips to the likes of Elgin, Annan or Brechin beats going there in January rain for a Scottish Cup tie.

As for the League Cup overall, we've won four trophies in my lifetime. Can't be a lot shorter than even money that I'll see another one😐. Without the League Cup, 2016 would be our only one😳. Next spring, it'll be 75 years since the last League Championship win.
I think "The Tornadoes Team" are always listed as that same XI because it was the line-up that beat Celtic in the League Cup Final.

I'd likely still rather win it again and finish 7th than finish 3rd and go out of both cups & Europe early, but I suppose finances dictate that 3rd place & UEFA money would be preferable to a League Cup win these days.

Was it not roughly the same team that played all season?

I can recite it (and the subs) without thinking (not thinking being a talent I have honed over the years) but I'd have to think a bit before naming another Hibs Cup Winning team.

Not that there's many.

Played together 21 times I think.

Simpson, Craig, Gemmell; Murdoch, McNeill, Clark; Johnstone, Chalmers, Wallace, Auld, Lennox. I'd be interested to know how many times they played together?

I was reading a book which explores some of the myths of the Revie era at Leeds United. There's a classic lineup from that time (early 70s). Sprake, Reaney, Cooper; Bremner, Charlton, Hunter; Lorimer, Giles, Clarke, Jones, Gray. Apparently they played together ONCE, because Paul Madeley, who could play almost any position, was invariably deputising for someone or other.

Anyway, to get back to Turnbull's Tornadoes, I would define them a bit less narrowly than the 11 we can all reel off. Otherwise you reduce a fairly lengthy period of brilliance down to The Great Hibs Team of Autumn 1972.

Those will get the juices flowing!
If you're a Bino, Spider, Lichtie, Doonhamer or Par you may get excited.
Doubt many others will.

Was looking at the fixtures, as I might be around for the Conference League home leg. I was often back in the UK for the first week or two of the season and took in a League Cup game as a neutral, when it was knockout. Not much either side of July 23rd that's attractive.

Have to laugh at the draws for Dundee & the Sheep. If I was a fan likely to attend LC group games, I'd want my team to have 2 Saturday away games in "Day Out" locations.

Dundee's group is Ross🙂, Annan🙂, Clyde😠 & Airdrie🤬. They've pulled the desired away days to Dingwall & Annan, but they're both midweek😂. Evil treks for a Tuesday night, even in July.

Sheep have QP, QoS, Kelty & Brora. I've not been to Brora, but I'd imagine it's a trip fans might fancy. Unless they're Gunts :yams1:obviously. Dumfries is one of my fave away days, though it lashed down when I was last there (16/17🤔?). Like Dundee, they've got the two decent away fixtures; like Dundee, they have them in midweek.

Brora v QoS and Annan v Ross are Saturday games. As are Killie's trips to Elgin & Peterhead. St.Mirren, Pars & ICT also have both away games on Saturday. ICT's only midweek game is home to St.Johnstone, so the fixture compilers are not totally daft.
