Labour

Doesn’t really matter who they blame, end result’s the same. To be honest I think it should be means tested. Free prescriptions the next thing to go?
I doubt it, it would be a bad thing medically for people across the country who are on long term medications that they can no longer afford, putting further strain on the hospitals.

Probably.
I pay less at the moment.
I expect to pay the going rate as it is in the rest of the UK if Labour hit Holyrood once more.
Maybe they'll pay off their index linked PFI from their last 'shottie'.
I doubt the mother ship will want Scottish taxes reduced given the latest GERS figures just published !

Just one poll so far, but given Farage’s intent to now target the labour vote, it’s interesting that Labour’s polling lead has been cut to 13 points with most of their lost support seemingly going to Reform. The tories have stayed level pegging, but this puts Reform into second.

Cancel the winter fuel payments, then send all our extra renewable energy down to England for free.
Makes perfect sense ……. Would you like a little water with that sir 🙄
Why do you think it will be 'free'?

The UK is a shitshow right now. Little englander views everywhere and a govt nobody wants. I'd have hope Scotland would be different but smashing the snp not the answer. If free bus passes go and medicine, which will happen then many will regret their votes for labour. Ive been a labour man all my life but dont recognise the party. Overjoyed the tories are gone but mimicking their policies not only depressing but wrong. The oap vote is taken for granted but they will become as volatile as the rest of the electorate. As for reform,I can see why even some sane folk vote for them as no party represents millions of folk in England which is a very dangerous position for democracy to be in. All IMHO of course. Nobody seems happy with the state of politics these days with basic amenities breaking down. Do you protest or just shrug your shoulders when whatever you do nothing changes. Plus ca change. Rant over. Away for a lie down.

The fact farage gets away with his nonsense shows how bad things are btw. A shallower politician there has never been. Can say anything knowing he won't get near power. If the tories don't get their shit together the UK could head into very dangerous waters.

Suppose we could just fuck off and leave the little Englanders to it.... if only there was a way🤔

Not looking for an argument but what are " little englander views" ?

Maybe taking the unrest into consideration Farage has a chance of building a more successful party than the Liberals. The masters of talking pish knowing they will never have to back it up.

Good post and mostly spot on imho, other than I’d take issue with the little Englander point. See @rabthegab post for what life is like for him in Rotherham. The situation is indeed dangerous in England but it’s not simply the Saxons being bellicose out of badness.

Tbf to labour, and indeed the SNP, we are rooked. The Blair era fcked us - and yes other countries did the same thing and they’re fcked anaw. A post cold west hubris has set us on course for a very dangerous century.

According to just issued GERS data they are propping us up to record levels…again.

We should pursue independence but it’s not going to resolve the things people are complaining about here. Not for 20 years anyway.

Times of unrest is when the nutters jump in to fill the void of the disillusioned - see Mr Hitler

Yes. We would run our economy how its being run just now.

The tragedy of our times is that the mainstream parties are driving it. We have a set of real problems that require honesty with the electorate which none of them will grasp with.

But on top of that you have a psychotic politically correct ideology which seems hellbent on stirring up strife while taking a wrecking ball to society and the things we need to get out of this mess - ie education, social cohesion, social responsibility. It’s far from a secondary issue and it may actually blow everything up in a horrific way. And all completely unforced; a choice by a venal and ennui laden elite, to fill their pockets and to try to fill the voids within them.

We would have that opportunity and that’s absolutely the ‘from the head’ rationale for Indy. However, it would take decades to achieve, and that’s once we got to grips with the fact that it would require going in the opposite direction to what Indy is currently sold on.

But maybe I’m wrong. What - in broad terms - would you do differently ?

Firstly, what would you do differently?... in broad terms likes.

Your obviously no for the status quo either...

Hi. I know nothing about politics but it'll only take someone with a decent following and profile, charisma and a few tasty soundbites to attract hordes of supporters. A lot of people would vote for the devil if it meant keeping their personal comforts/privileges intact - and I don't mean that in a bad way, that's just a fact.

As I’ve said before, I think Ireland is the template. I stress it doesn’t fill me with any great joy, but we are in the world we are in. I would prefer we weren’t embroiled in the globalist mess that is reaming the western world, and I’d prefer that people lived more sustainability from their own free volition, but we are where we are. The point of this caveat is so you don’t mistake this for what I’d ‘like’ but rather what I think is the best available course:

I think we’d need to become a low cost outpost for global businesses, so low tax and low regulation. We would need to cut services accordingly until the loot started piling up as in Ireland.

We’d need to strive to avoid the migration related disaster that threatens to derail Ireland - and which unlike the UK was not demographically required, but done just because like most western countries their elite are in the grip of a bonkers ideology that coincidentally funnels wealth up to the top.

Scotland is different and desperately needs mass migration …but the absence of it to date is what separates us from the doom loop the Saxons are in. Quite the conundrum then. I think connecting the various points here, the answer would be to apply the service cuts in areas which enable folk to not reproduce, thus creating our demographic crisis. In other words we’d need to nudge people to be more self reliant and fulfilling of responsibilities that must go with rights.

But none of the last paragraph is in any way likely as it goes against the religion of the ruling class. So we would be donald ducked anyway. But at least we could avoid being Donald Ducked and quite as brassic at the same time. So we’d get great wealth polarisation, civil strife and housing permanently beyond reach, but we would also get ourselves into a position where services could eventually be resurrected and where we avoid complete economic collapse.

Quite the inspiring vision, eh?

Agree with this, but it’s not the people hanging on to privilege that will vote for radical change. Remarkably they have managed to get us to accept narratives like the above, where in fact the status quo feathers their nest while impoverishing and dividing the less fortunate.

Their devils are more subtle and more articulate and they have convinced us that anything that would rebalance things is rooted in wickedness. Sadly that may become self fulfilling with only the dodgy or downright dangerous offering alternatives.

I keep seeing Scotland needs mass migration why?
Some on here saying those of us against illegal immigration are right wing racists so here's a genuine question. When does the level of immigration become too much ? 5 mill, 10 mill,20 mill ?
Or do we just keep people coming in till all our countryside is houses?

Well, look what happened to the Titanic.
:lookaround:

Scotland is punting all this electricity to England, more than we do at the moment.

Scottish households already pay more for their electricity supposedly because its expensive to distribute. This is costing £4.3bn and I'd put money on Scottish electricity still being more expensive than England.
Scottish households don't pay more for their electricity.

Without a long explanation little Englanders are visible In a place like carlisle. Go there regularly and lovely folk till you talk politics. Very right wing and hostile on immigration. On Charles coronation there were union Jack's everywhere. No problem with that but the very same folk then screech when ex pats I Spain etc are looked upon the same way carlisle view immigrants.

I really don’t think ex pats in Spain present the Spanish with the same challenges England faces; and yet despite that I have many times encountered people sneering at them, who are quick to condemn English folk worried about inward migration. Go figure.

Brits in Spain make up less than 1% of the population and the biggest social challenges they pose are sartorial and culinary.

There is a difference between immigrants who come here via the proper channels and those who rock up in the channel.
I think there are too many coming into the country but I wouldn't class myself as right wing, whatever that is.
For what its worth I think there's nothing worse than going to somewhere like Spain and seeing signs for English breakfast and Sunday roast.
If you're not going to integrate into the culture and learn the language stay at home.

Totally agree. Still no excuse for the riots. We are all immigrants of one sort or another. A huge amount on here are of irish origin so actually immigrants. Saddens me directing their their ire at folk just trying to make a life rather than the politicians who have shafted them. Without these immigrants the NHS wouldn't survive as with many other businesses. Be careful what you wish for.

I know this is in response to Paignton, but I’m sorry this is facile.

You seem to simply be ignoring what is going on in parts of England. Substantial numbers of people have no interest in integrating and are forming into parallel societies with a real impact on the indigenous community - and no, we are not all immigrants in anything other than an utterly meaningless way.

I’m an immigrant though, from that Irish diaspora you mentioned, but purely Scottish bouncers are not and I wonder why you would suggest otherwise - it’s like something out of an HSBC advert (and those adverts have a specific purpose I wouldn’t have expected you to share). If I was inclined to pedantry I could point out that at the time, that migration was people moving around within the then UK, and it’s disputable as to whether that is immigration at all.

And very few people, and none here, direct their ire at immigrants. People in England have specific concerns at volumes of migration pricing them out of owning a home, depressing wages and t&c (and these levels of migration are specifically intended to do that), overwhelming infrastructure and turning communities inside out. On top of that there are specific and entirely justified concerns about islamisation - that’s not a concern at ‘immigrants’ it’s specific and well grounded and it doesn’t apply to Asian or African migrants (sometimes fleeing the same in their country of origin) nor European migrants. Then there is two tier treatment dished out by those who rule over them (and it’s not the police I have in mind).

How would you ask people to respond to these listed items. You don’t seem to be a right winger, but this is explicitly right wing stuff, indeed pretty extreme right wing stuff, in the ultra capitalist / devil take the hindmost mould. I find it baffling; a lot of self declared left wing sorts have taken it upon themselves to act as virtual strikebreakers by demonising labour when it attempts to challenge it’s disempowerment by capital.

Is it your expectation that people should welcome, or even just accept, their labour (bargaining) power being ground into dust and their exclusion from being able to buy a house? Or the closing down of pubs and facilities, and the dissolution of long-standing communities, as the urban landscape around them takes on the form of a different culture?

This is not migration, it’s mega migration. And it’s not integration it’s the decohering of society. The population of England has grown by 10% since Tony Blair started all this. Places in England are literally entirely different places than they were as recently as the britpop era. There is nothing remotely resembling it in Scotland. Have you no empathy at all for people affected by it?

Couldn't agree more. Forums over here full of "where's the best English breakfast" (why is it always fucking English by the way?) "Sunday roast" etc.
One prick was moaning about how the street signs were a bit low and could injure someone. You're in Asia ya *&*^, just duck!
Oh man you've got me started now 😡

Re your opening paragraph, I believe a big part of the problem is because the UK withdrew (or possibly didn’t invest in it in the first place) all the UKBA centres on the European side so the proper channels by which refugees were trying to enter were non existent and thereby leaving them desperate and at the mercy of unscrupulous agents with a dinghy to sell.
