Even Alex Ferguson knew that sometimes players need an arm around their shoulder, though. If SDG doesn't recognise that, then it just makes him authoritarian, and that's not good management.

True but not a single one of us know his managerial style in the dressing room or on the training pitch, so it’s all moot, all I’m saying he absolutely needs to have authority and if that means no every player gets on board, so be it.

Again we don’t know what any of the players are really like but if some aren’t buying into the standards set, are not trying hard enough to adapt or to get fit, then the manager rightly shouldn’t be playing them.

Ultimately I’d rather have a manager who’s perhaps too firm than a clown like Lee Johnson.

Not really - you can actually see what a player is doing on the pitch, which folk can then form their own opinions on.

I did mean behind the scenes in training and how they fit into the squad, but yes take your point.

Klidje is maybe a symptom of a wider problem when signing young foreign players.

Playing well with a club where they're at home, good atmosphere and a growing comradery. But there first language isn't English.

A great season unsurprisingly draws attention of clubs.

The players move.

Different club, different everything for the young player to get to grips with. Difficulty getting to grips with the language, difficulty settling in a different culture. Mood drops, enthusiasm drops and performance suffers. Downward spiral.

I'm not saying that is happening to Klidge, who I have high hopes for, it's a possibility though.

I agree, that’s what I’ve said - we know nothing other than what we see on the pitch.
