A great 3pm KO Saturday. Met my mate and travelled on the bus from Kinross. Went to the battle cruiser and met up with his son and mine, and another couple of Hibee legends for a few beers. All good so far, it’s what Saturday is all about.
We started off with a high intensity which I think we have lacked, we moved the ball well and certainly had a lot more energy in the team as of late. But then we are 2 down, which from my seat seemed self inflicted. Top level fitba, does not allow basic errors, they will and were punished. I did think our goal on 43 minutes would level the luck out, and stupidly said to the boys around me, that we would go on to win the game.
The deluded fool which I am 🙄.
2nd half, we looked to be dangerous without creating much then I looked in amazement as he took our most dangerous player on the day ( Klidge) off, and I feared the worst. My fears were compounded. We then for the last 30 mins never looked like scoring in the old adage of a barrel of fannies. The game petered out to a damp squib.
The adage of you are a sum of your parts comes to mind. Because we have some decent players, but we have guys who would struggle to get a game for Arbroath or the the likes.
I will mention players who gave me positive vibes, let’s keep it at that. You get my drift 😝
Salinger is probably as best we can hope for just now, he is just above “okay” Ivezic I thought looked like a leader and composed, encouraging. Passlack is better than most players we have, and gives his all and demands it from others, I like him. Klidge, looked dangerous today, I have doubted him loads before, and when he got subbed today, my gunt sank for a few reasons.. Elding scored and seems desperate to have another decent player beside him, his workrate is fantastic. And on that note, I did think the players worked harder today than that have in the past, which is actual a negative on them. Shame on you boys 😥.
As for Mulligan, I think my young lad @tattie and gravy has said to me, it must the case that sometime soon we are going to learn that he has been carrying a groin or hamstring injury for months which actually needs operated on because he is not the player we seen last season, and I don’t doubt his attitude.
So, a defeat was painful, but I did see an intensity which has been missing for a long time. We just have to hope our luck changes and we turn a corner.
I would still have SDG as our manger, but he isn’t and I will carry on supporting the team I love, and through a tough day, I seen positives, but they were hard to find.
We will, however, put the gunts to bed in the semi. Trust me , I’m a doctor 😝

I think it is safe to say at the minute we are in serious serious trouble.. The confidence has been sucked right out of the players.. Any attacking intent was also sucked out of them in favour of turning games into battles where fine margins as we heard from David Gray so many times in his post match interviews would determine the outcome..

Today in the first half especially I watched a bunch of players terrified of the football. Scared to give it away and the playing the simple pass at every single opportunity.. Safe option time and time again.. Some of those players are not good enough to play for Hibs, some have completely fallen off a cliff form wise and yet again this summer there will be another raft of players leaving and a raft coming in the front door...

As for the game itself it was a game of two halves performance wise.. The first period being poor but a lot better after the break and something to take into next week..

There is zero craft in this team, none. We must get Newell back in the midfield, despite all his faults, because he is the only one on the books who can slide a pass in to forward runners. Drop Chaiwa or Mulligan, does not matter which, perhaps even both because they are doing nothing for the team right now. Get some control in midfield through Newell although I would fine him for every unnecessary safe back pass that he is so fond of! He is captain, time to stand up and get this midfield working.

Please not Newell.. He's been there , failed time after time, played his part in getting 7 managers the bullet. If he comes back in we are truly cooked.

I am not suggesting he is a long term solution and I am not a fan, don't get me wrong, but this team needs someone in the middle who has the technical ability to not panic when in possession. No one else in our midfield can do this. Devaney is out injured, I don't see that he has any other options.

Sure I read somewhere that Ivezic has played defensive mid, maybe that's an option?

Thanks for the JB.

From my seat on the sofa I thought our biggest sin was the time spent fannying about on the ball. From the start Falkirk set out to press and harry and pretty quickly our game went to pieces. We should be the team dictating the tempo especially at home.

The other thing I noticed is too often we allowed ourselves to get corralled when playing up the wing. ER is a wide pitch, we should use it.

Again, I felt the tempo and energy was elevated for most of the match but Falkirk were at the same level or better, constantly pressing and forcing errors. As usual, the final pass not good enough and giving away possession far too often. We didn’t create many decent scoring opportunities. Falkirk didn’t create much either so we did the work for them! Kerr is worse than a man short, everything stops when he gets on the ball.

Get rid of McKay now! Don’t give him another shot at the next transfer window.

There’s a lot of hyperbole around David Gray; and the group of players; who were 6 minutes away from qualifying for the Euro Conference Group stage.

I think we our first choice 11 when fit are solid, but scratch below the surface and it’s a shallow squad without balance.

Spot on about Mulligan, he’s a different player this season.

“The important bit is that the green and navy have very similar brightness. The main difference between them is hue rather than light versus dark.”

A helpful explanation which makes sense to me
Yes, I agree it's a helpful explanation, but in practice it's difficult when you're red-green colour blind like me - an ex-amateur ref!

He isn't the answer short term let alone long term If he starts playing again then we are in even bigger trouble and that's practically impossible at the minute. We have enough guys going missing during games right now , we do not need another..

Anyone else struggle with the shirts today, too similar?
Judging by some of the passing, Hibs’ players struggled too!

Elding gets a pass mark. No one else does. All 4 defenders were fucking rank. Incapable of doing the basics. Mulligan is a waste of a jersey. Etc.

David Gray left this squad bereft of self confidence, backbone and ideas. He is solely responsible for our early season demise. Mackay's random recruitment strategy is useless too.

Fuck knows how Marink will dig us out of the hole we're in. We're in a relegation dogfight and need to approach every game with aggression and determination not the feeble shitshows we've seen all season.

Sooner Rocky is back the better as Kerr is a fucking liability.

Hope the alarm bells are ringing loud and clear if we're to get out of this mess.

Deveney is suspended and back next week?

I'm recording the highlights at the moment. I must confess I haven't been to see my beloved Hibernian for some time. Looks like I didn't miss much today! The default is we'll pick up form in a few weeks and and up finishing 5th or 6th but..

It's been a long time since I left Easter Road so down as I was today.
In total despair watching that excuse for a Hibs team.
The standards have fallen big time, and it's very upsetting to see it.
We have hit rock bottom of the league, and to be honest, watching that today, I have serious doubts about
our chances of getting out of this mess.

Reedijk is a huge gamble, especially coming in midway through the season.
I know about all the rumours of dressing room disharmony, but we really do need to get some sort of unity at the club before long as
that's the only way we are going to keep our heads above water.

Having watched Hibs for as many years as I have, I tend to be quite laid back about the club these days, but I felt real anger today.
Hibs have a really great and loyal support who deserve much, much better than they have been served up in the last year or so.
We can debate all day about who is responsible for this crisis, but the upshot of it is that we need points desperately.
Celtic at home next week is not the ideal game to try to kick start the season, but let's at least see some fight and unity for fuck sake.

Think we're buggered. Who knows though a win a Hampden could change everything.
Just cannot see this happening. Hope im wrong but there is nothing to gain confidence from that we can win. Ill be there but I cant see us doing anything.

This happened because we have weak leadership at the club. Gray should have been let go at the end of last season and a thorough search for a replacement could have been done during the offseason. Instead, we have a real problem on our hands with a manager of dubious capabilities. The whole club is in disarray. We are all over the place.

Who is the answer ? They're all shite

I have no information and it just my own observation. I get the feeling out new manager has cracked the whip with regards certain players and they don't like it.

I feel certain players have probably been there too long and have had too much of a 'say' in the past.

The passlack appointment of captain is very telling imo. The body language of certain players tells me some are not happy and some appear to not be giving 100% for our new mgr.

With that we now have the ingredients of a team who will be fighting relegation.

Malky is the microcosm of all that is wrong with our club at the moment. Nepotism and 'jobs for the boys' is rampant..

You sometimes reap what you sow as a club..

Agreed.

We didn't interview for the post of Sporting Director we gave it to Malky Mackay because he's a friend of then Chairman Malcolm McPherson.

The Black Knights then 25% shareholders didn't agree with this appointment.

Then in the door we were told Malky Mackay interviewed candidates for the vacant manager position and he decided David Gray was the best candidate for the position.

The Black Knights also didn't agree with this decision and Bill Foley let it be known....

Malky Mackay then appointed David Marshall pretty much as his assistant. Based on what? That he's his mate?

And now having sacked David Gray ridiculously into the season (it was pretty obvious the change should have happened at the end of last season) Malky Mackay has brought in some novice. Though not to worry he's put his pals Brian McLaughlin and Scott Thomson to keep an eye on things....

It all fuckin stinks. And of course before we had club owner Ian Gordon overseeing recruitment for his Dad the sadly departed Ron Gordon.

We are a fuckin shit show and things could get much worse. I can't see how we avoid that to be honest.

The Gordon family are good people with good intent but they've failed. Time they sold up. They should be firing Malky Mackay, David Marshall and Garvan Stewart today.
