After nearly a year with nothing, I start on Thursday as a trainee chef!
Forresters Arms in Portobello, the guy who owns The Dome has bought and renovated it, my mates head chef.
Open kitchen too, so feel free to come laugh at me shitting it :giggle:

Just thought I'd share.

Noticed it was being gutted out when I passed the other day.

What sort of place is it going to be ? Speaking with my neighbour who's a regular and he's not happy it's changing.

I've no been in yet, just had a wee look at the menu, sounds quite fancy though.

definitely a move upmarket I'd say..ie more expensive, hope we will still be allowed in wearing trackies, Hibs shirts etc after the monday night fives at the Power League.... ( bounce discount on pints?)

I used to go the Forresters years ago when I lived in Portobello...really good traditional boozer.
Looks like it's going a bit upmarket now....not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing to be honest

Excellent news Hammi.Same guy has owned it for a long time.

I live less than 1 minutes walk away and will be a regular there, good luck and will introduce myself when I'm in.

Think it might get in the way of football though... Dunno how the hours will look, imagine Saturdays are part of the job.

As someone who worked in hospitality for very nearly a decade, I can however sadly confirm that 3pm Saturday games will be out the box, unless a) you have a VERY understanding head chef, or b) do restaurant-style split shifts. Even then it will be tight.

I only got my ST when I finished up in pubs/restaurants for good. It is very much a weekend racket, even more so in a place like Edinburgh.

Saying that, @Sunshine On Leith is correct to allude to the fact that Saturday 3pm is an endangered species now.

Was supposed to start today but apparently the floor isn't finished so I start Saturday now instead, means I won't miss Friday nights game :bbb:

Finally opened on Monday night, and a kitchen is easily the hardest graft I've ever done!!
Doesn't help there's only 2 of us like... Half 9 starts and no finishing til midnight


The food is amazing though, so if you're no feared of paying 10 for a main then you should give it a bash.

There's nachos, Macaroni bonbons with Chili jam (they're awesome btw!) A mushroom and toast plate and a very tasty Portobello mushroom burger, comes filled with a 4 cheese mix and a tomato salsa type filling.

I can't think of anything else off the top of my head, but I'll have a looksee.

tried those macaroni/chilli numbers, very nice.Will prob be in after the game the morn.
 
Sure I saw a protest page on Facebook around the death of another decent boozer for the people of Porty.

I was only in there once.
