Football Lads and Lassies against Fascism

In my experience, people who turn up to anti-fascist protests are highly committed. Many have had first hand experience of racist abuse themselves. Others have seen it and are disgusted by it.

I'm sure some of them are but a lot of them are a mix of a right on poseurs and dafties spoiling for a bit of bovver.

My experience of people on the other side is that they are often less committed and many have been swept along just to be one of the crowd. I remember an incident one day where a young skinhead said something horribly racist in the pub thinking he was in the company of nationalists. Unfortunately for him he was in the company of AFA redskins. He was roundly set about by the older lads. He was then picked up, dusted down and sat upon a bar stool and bought many a drink while it was explained to him exactly where he went wrong. After that, he remained part of the group and was even heard explaining to other youngsters why racism was evil.

Not really the same thing as pitching up at a march to counter protest in the hope of a bit of aggro. But sounds about right for the make up of these sorts. A bunch of loudmouths with no backbone. Gordonsmith7 posted a video of the Nazi Supremacist sniffling away like a toddler as a nice example.

Obviously the group that are harassing the black lad are out of order. Any group harassing and bullying someone is out of order. My point was to do with these so called "protesters" showing up and just looking to incite violence.
Been offline a few days so the discussion in some ways supersedes this, but its still bizarre to me that you can say what you do above on the micro level but ignore it at the macro level. This is what is happening with far right marches and their opponents, if they are not confronted they'll be circling and attacking the black lad, and anyone else that isn't sufficiently arian. In any case the violence has already been incited by neo-nazis and white supremacists marching.

Another thing to point out fascism isn't just about racism, these folk are sexist, homophobic, anti art, anti music anti trade unionist anti anything that smacks of libertarian.Remember under the Nazis, millions of Roma lost their lives, millions of gays lost their lives and thousands of trade unionists lost their lives.Art movements were crushed, music was banned and books burned. That's why I'm against fascism,it's against anything we hold dear. It's against everything I hold dear about Hibs and if that means a few of us are getting together to put stickers up on lamposts so be it.

Calm down Moaty.

The Nazi's banned music? I suspect nobody told Richard Wagner then.

Hail Hydra.

They banned 'degenerate' Swing music. From 1933, radio stations were forbidden to play anything that resembled it; musicians were issued strict instructions on how to hold their instruments so as not to resemble black performers. In conquered Czechoslovakia, an order reportedly forbade “hysterical rhythmic reverses characteristic of the barbarian races” (improvisational riffs). Swing – a music rooted in African-American culture, popularised by Jewish musicians – was doubly verboten.

Indeed.

They also had some weird ideas about how certain classical composers were not worthy of being heard - Mendelssohn for instance. Probably just a coincidence that he was a jew.

More a 'nazification' of music, with Wagner being Top of the Pops in Adolf's view, rather than music generally being banned.

Moaty my good amigo. Here is a measured analysis on Fascism and any imminent threat of it from 18 months ago. It does not say that the Labour movement should not confront Fascists, whoever seriously considers what it is and not calling Le Pen or the mob that made gains in Sweden yesterday such. The SWP's analysis is false and dangerous in my opinion. Couple of good videos in the article too Moaty.

What is Fascism and is it a threat today

You haven't been paying attention G , I haven't been in the SWP since 2012 and I guess you haven't been anywhere near a Militant meeting since they became the Socialist Party.Lads and Lassies against Fascism has nowt to do with the SWP or any other party as far as I know, it is an initiative set up by fitba' fans nowt else and since I got my stickers via St Pats branch members I thought you would know that.

And yes sir Shrink, of course I wasn't talking about all music, just as they didn't ban all art or all books. The Nazis had the propensity to by hypocritical about their taste in music, art, etc,it wouldn't be the first time a Nazi has claimed Jazz was degenerate in public only to be found with Louis Amstrong's Hot Seven among their own private collection, similarly with the likes of Piccaso's turning up.The official line was you were to like the likes of Wagner and Carl Orff(even he had to keep schtum about his Jewish background).

By the way I don't need to take any lessons from the one time Militant party whose analysis of the Soviet Union was that it was 'a degenerate workers state' even as the Berlin wall came down. Not every word uttered by Comrade Trotsky should be taken as sacrosanct especially not his Transitional Programme.

Calm down. I do not support the Socialist Party. Whether or not you support the SWP is no concern of mines, however an analysis of Fascism is. It should not be bandied about as the SWP Sect does vis a vis Right Wing Nationalists. Dangerous lack of understanding in my opinion. When will they ever learn?
