David Murphy

That was a great goal - one of the best I've seen Hibs score in Glasgow. Played a couple of one-twos with Benji, then struck it first time to beat Boruc, glancing off the underside of the crossbar. Think the game finished 1-1 (the 3-2 game was maybe the Nish and Fletcher comeback in the yellow strip?).

David Murphy was a model professional, a term that is often used a little condescendingly, to describe a player who plies his trade consistently though not necessarily brilliantly. This is not the case with Murphy. He was consistently brilliant in a position in which it can be difficult to unearth quality talent within a Hibs-sized budget (as we have found out, painfully, since).

As is often remarked upon, he is not traditionally thought of as one of the 'glamour' players of an era that saw Riordan, O'Connor et al in their prime. In those two examples, their careers have stuttered, stalled, and disappointed hugely, in no small part due to their own approach to the game. It serves to show that football is not necessarily a fair sport when the most professional, committed, and consistently brilliant player of that era's playing career has come to an end before those who were foolish with their talent.

All the best David Murphy - a modern Hibs legend.

aye you are right about the 1-1 score that day was getting mixed up. good post.

Another tremendous goal was the semi @ the saville dome vs st.johnstone, a 30 yarder?

And not to take the shine of Lewis' MotM in the final, but alot of that was down to Murphy being directly behind him guiding him.

Isn't it brilliant when we get a thread up and running and everyone agrees with everyone else :Sparkle_Cool:

That doesn't happen an awful lot of the time

Best left back since the late great Shades.
Brilliant player for Hibs, and a real shame for him.

Agreed Doc. I never thought I would see a Hibs left back to come close to Shades but Murphy certainly did. I worked with a guy who played Non-League football with Murph years ago and he confirmed that he was an absolute gent too.

Fritz agrees with this post. :rascal:

"In fact had I still been fit, I would have loved to have returned to Easter Road to play for the club that really kick started my career."

I think the word I'm looking for is: bugger. :pullhair:

What I wouldn't give for a LB like Murph right now.

THIS!!!!
