As we aee looking at bands from all ages I wondered if anyone has a fav today. Band or singer. I loves folklore by Swifty but not taken to the latesr album. My fav at the moment is Holly Humberson and saw her 2 weeks ago im the Weedge where she was excellent .

Not finding many bands I can get into

Ferocious Dog was the last group I saw and thoroughly enjoyed them.I don't currently own any of their music and coming up to Christmas I am not going to buy myself some.

My 22 year old loves Holly Humberson and was probably at the same gig as you. Marched in with her EP on vinyl the other day.

Heard a band called The Beatles are worth a listen. Don't know much about them.

Och loads of stuff, I'm still an avid consumer of new music (though I will admit I'm a set in his ways indie/post-punk rocker).

This year I've enjoyed:

Automatic - Excess, Mitski - Laurel Hell, Mattiel - Georgia Gothic, Orville Peck - Bronco, Wet Leg - Wet Leg, Yard Act - The Overload, Weird Nightmare - Weird Nightmare, Thick- Happy Now,
Warmduscher - At The Hotspot, Wooze - The Magnificent Eleven, The Linda Lindas - Growing Up, The Chats - Get Fucked, Thee Oh Sees - A Foul Form, Metric - Fortmentera, Viagra Boys - Cave World, Horsegirl - Versions of Modern Performance, Cola - Deep in View, Black Country New Road - Ants From Up There, Panic Shack - Baby Shack....

Not to mention some quality albums by old timers this year (Elvis Costello and Half Man Half Biscuit put out great albums).

If I had to pick a favourite artist in the last decade or so I'd probably pick Mitski. She's got hints of most of my all time favourite female singer songwriters running through her work - the theatricality of Kate Bush, the raw lyrics of Tori Amos, the genre hopping of Bjork. She can go from big slabs of mood music (Geyser, Working For The Knife) to outright pop (The Only Heartbreaker, Your Best American Girl) with ease.

My missus and I saw her in the basement of Stereo in 2016 and seeing her get incrementally more successful over the last few years to a point where she was headlining the Other Stage at Glasto and, weirdly, supporting Harry Styles in stadiums in the summer has been a joy.

You do seem to know your music. I tend to fall back on the past but when I do find someone I like I tend to overplay them and not explore enough. I grew up like most of my age with mix of punk, two tone, mod...or at least the jam, plenty disco/pop with touches of reggae. Ballads grew on me over the years. I struggle with a lot of indie, prog rock, metal rap and blues But there is always a band in each genre who bucks the trend and are very listenable to.

I willl try to continue getting out my comfort zone but I have def mellowed over the years.

As an aside I drifted in out of moods this week so alternately listened to the ballads of Dr Hook, or at other times their funny rock songs sucb as stoned and I missed it, millionaire, everybodies making it big but me.

My current big favourites are The Gabriels - singer Jacob Lusk has got a beautiful voice. Their performance at Glastonbury this year was incredibly emotional and is worth a watch if you can find the whole thing - sadly this is all I can find

There's a few of my mates bands that I like roughly based around ex Fire Engines/Boots For Dancing sort of vibe.Coco Whitson ex Gargleblood,Blood Uncles,Voicex and Boots For Dancing and gid Hibby has a new band out called Scorpio Leasure, another mate Andy Loughrey 'Panda' has a band called Tango Rhums and there is another mate John Carmichael in the Trama Dolls.

Do The Stones, The Animals, The Kinks, The Hollies, The Searchers, Status Quo, Abba, Beach Boys, The Who, Moody Blues, The Mamas & the Papas, Credence Clearwater, Four Tops etc. and anything before 1980 count ????

Streaming for all it's faults has been a godsend for that very reason. There's no way I could justify spending what I did as a teen on music these days with a family to spraff all my disposable dosh on.

With streaming I can check out every album I read an intriguing review for and pick up my favourites on vinyl, buy a gig ticket, t-shirt etc... And still support the artists.

Today's teens don't know how good they've got it. When I think of some the absolute shite I wasted a shift washing pots/waiting tables on based on some hyped up review in the NME or Melody Maker back in the 90s (Terris, JJ72 or Menswear anyone?).

I'm probably listening to more new music at 40 than I was from my mid 20s to whenever I got a Spotify account (5 years ago?).

Yep. Given the cost of vinyl these days, I tend to listen to an album in Bandcamp before I buy.

Pandy is Rimbleton boy like me and wasn't Dougie Barry in BFD ? He was in my year at school oh and Paul Reekie was the year below

Don't know Dougie Barry, but knew Paul Reekie, also knew original BFD drummer Stuart Wright-who also drummed for the Twinsets. His wife Muriel Wright ne McCance is a good friend.

Indeed.
And a few of them still making new music and playing live.
Ageism in action!!!!!!!
Have the WHO re-written a song entitled, I hope I'm still rocking when I get old?

DMAs are good if you like 90s esque madchester stuff.

My laddie bangs on about Declan Welsh as well

The Comet Is Coming.

Synthy jazz group, absolutely fuckin brilliant.

I've always been left a bit cold by Mitski, and I'm reliably informed this means my gay card is revoked. Oh well. Her videos are great fun though.

I could see her being a bit of a marmite character, her delivery and persona are a bit aloof. I reckon her best album is still in her though. I'm confident there's a 10/10 waiting in the wings.

I'll need to add The Comet is Coming to the list - never even heard of them.
