Hope everyone is doing as good as they can right now and for those who have helped me recently I can’t thank you enough for doing so.

slightly off topic but has anyone commuted to Glasgow ( Queen Street) from Edinburgh / Fife 2 or 3 days a week. Did you take the car? Train? What was it like?
My previous commute was to Aberdeen then I’d stay 10 minutes from the office 3 nights a week.
any info would be greatly appreciated.
If anyone is down or feeling annoyed please give me a DM I will try help as best as I can.
Thank you.

Driving the M8 every day is fucking misery.

I did it for 2 years from the other direction - I hated the hour of my life that I gave up each way. On the bright side you’ll get to listen to lots of radio and or audiobooks

I did it for 29 years. Only in abeyance now because of lockdown. I'm in Musselburgh, so when going by bus and train that was an extra half-hour each way.
Will you have to commute during rush hour? Much easier and cheaper if you don't.
I used to take the car twice a week, public transport three days. Car's fine in good weather, not so much in the winter.
I quite liked the train, used to get the 9.15 out and the 7pm back. You soon find familiar faces to talk to. I used to download TV progs and films onto my tablet too. Monday mornings were always my Sportscene fix. Would avoid watching it at the weekends.
Got to say, I'm enjoying working from home.

I did Livingston to Kinning Park a few years back, just as the new M74 extension opened, which was a god send.
My issue with Glasgow is that coming off the M8 / M74 into the city is fine, but it always appears to take longer to get back on for the return route.
Train is great, but if you travel rush hour it is hugely expensive and crowded.
Parking around Queen Street is also hugely expensive, so that would be another consideration.
FifeHibs- does this mean a new job? (If you don't mind me asking)

I did Edinburgh Central to just before Glasgow Airport for a couple of years.

I went by car. Left Edinburgh at around 6.30 returning 3.30 which meant I missed the worst of the traffic. Getting paid mileage was good. Getting paid travelling time was even better meant I never got that frustrated when I did get stuck.

Hopefully just waiting on paperwork. Never worked in Glasgow though

If I was doing it in normal times I think I'd take the motorbike as much as possible. Maybe not in current weather right enough.

Pre last year's initial lockdown my Mrs was commuting daily from Livingston to Glasgow city centre (just off George Square).
She could get there and back during rush hour quicker than the traveling time she had in a previous job at the Gyle!!

*By car.

Had a couple of jobs through in Glasgow.
First time I rented a room there thru the week and went by train from Slateford Monday morning and back after work Friday. Wasn’t expensive when it was one return fare a week but the train normally is costly.

Second time, last year and after I’d moved house I went on the citylink each morning from Corstorphine but got a cheap room thru there once or twice a week. Plenty choice centrally for around £25-30 a night and it broke the week up well. Cheap as chips, new comfy double deckers with guaranteed 2 seats to yourself but had to leave early as Fuk as if you’re on a bus arriving in Glasgow after 8am then the traffic was a nightmare from the same spot every day and added 20-30 mins journey time.

Only took the car a few times but doubt it’s cost efffective. I knew a street Finnieston way with free parking and 20mins walk to office. A days parking centrally wasn’t cheap.

Can't say I've ever done it but I've known a lot of people who reckon it'll be fine then get sick of it after a couple of months. It's a big chunk of your life to spend in a car.

A lot of it is to do with the time that you travel as well I think. It's really wearing mentally to drive in morning rush hour. If you go before or afterwards it is not nearly as bad. The other thing about driving is you will get caught up in some delays due to crashes etc.

Train is much better, but a busy train isn't much fun either on a regular basis. Whereas a half empty train with plenty of room to set up and work is fine.

I think whatever you do, try and have a plan for how to use to the time - I discovered audiobooks and I love a bit of psychobabble.

I might have a go at creating Hibs audiobooks. Not sure everyone could suffer my voice though. Likesay.
