Watching them v Dundee Utd. They are very ordinary...

Wouldn't fear them in any final.

Makes it even more disappointing that Aberdeen/St Johnstone/ICT cant sustain some form and beat them to the title. Aberdeen particularly have really screwed it up.....ever since we busted their flush at ER :dali: :approve:

Just read this, so wondered what the score was - they won 4-1 away from home (albeit to the bottom team) - were they really that bad? Ive not read anything bar the score, would you fancy us against them still (I presume the game was ongoing when you posted)?

Dundee United are horrendous. If you look at the budget they have over the rest of the SPL this is a very ordinary Celtic team with a very talented Griffiths.

They won easily albeit against the worst team in the SPFL who are doomed to relegation.

The current Celtic team are far from their vintage teams of the past, but they are undoubtedly the best team in the country and have the strongest squad. They also have a superbly gifted goalscorer in their ranks, one whom we know all about. Aberdeen, like all non old firm teams falter around this time of year against the teams they should be beating, but Celtic don't falter, they still win their matches regularly even when they are not playing well. Aberdeen deserve credit for giving them a run for their money so far, but their challenge has faded and will continue to fade as they lose key players to injury and suspension. Ultimately, in any league, it's the team which copes best with injuries and suspensions to key players that wins the league, and it will be the same in the Scottish Championship.

Aye bit.....

back to my question, how do you think we would do against them having watched the whole game?

Celtic are quite poor defensively, but, as other have said, they have goalscorers.

Hibs would have to be at their very best to beat them.

Very, very best.

They improved in the second half against a woeful Dundee Utd.

Celtc scored 4 but it could have been 8. However, Dundee Utd could and should have scored more. Quite an exciting game but I thought the quality was poor. Griffiths out of that Celtc team and possibly Commons and they are very ordinary.

They were far better in the 2nd half. Destroyed a clearly awful Dundee Utd team.

Griffiths has started breaking records for them.
Only a matter of time til he surpasses larssons goal scoring.

Celtc could and most probably would, destroy Hibernian in a cup final.

We're in the 2nd tier of Scottish football.

Hibernian have pumped the new firm (:laff:) this year. A tremendous achievement.

But we're the BIG underdogs against St.Johnstone and the perverts. ALL the pressure is on them.

won 8-1 v Hamilton tonight I see

looking at the league tables there's a chance we could face Hamilton again in a play off final...no surprise they have collapsed with Martin Canning in charge..

Celtic have went up a gear as they always do at this stage of a season....they have also strengthened in the window to the extent that they can afford to loan out a striker of Anthony Stokes calibre. They won't be stopped now and I expect them to now go on and win the league at a canter.

Hamilton IMO will likely be Hibs opponents in any potential play-off final. I can't see them recovering from that mauling tonight and their only consolation is that Dundee United are probably too far behind to catch them. The same thing happened to Hamilton last season in that they had a decent start but totally collapsed after the Christmas/New Year period and it was just as well for them that they had amassed enough points to avoid the play-offs or outright relegation. Canning will probably be sacked after tonight, but to be honest I feel they are a Championship club who have had their day in the sun at our expense over the last two seasons and who should really be back where they belong. I would be more confident about Hibs chances of beating them over two legs than the other potential opponents although I do realise the whole farcical play-off system in Scotland is geared towards keeping the SPFL club up. Hibs biggest problem should we end up in the play-offs will IMO be overcoming Falkirk over two legs.

That's my fear GM.

Since early on I've had a sneaking suspicion that the two clubs who get promoted will be the winners of the league..... and Fawkirk.

Under that fcukin irritating twat Houston the Bairns have been transformed from a decent fitba' side to a bunch of desperadoes. The time wasting, cheating, and stuffy ruination of the game has proved sadly effective, and on their day (and with the shit refereeing we are seeing) they are certainly capable of beating Hibs or Rangers.
I suspect that Rangers would have a chance of being awarded a couple of penalties to see them through - but Hibs wouldn't.

Good post. Agree on all points.

So in theory Hibs will have to overcome two plastic pitches to get promoted. That's not very likely imo.

From memory and as far back playing Hamilton away in the first leg of the play-off's i think we've only lost two. Away to Alloa & Falkirk:dunno:

Possibly. What other teams have we played on astro?

I'm more referring to the amount rather than who. Since the Hamilton game we've played 9 games on astro, winning 6 drawing 1 and lost 2.

EDIT: Just realised QOS also have plastic. That should now read played 12, won 8 lost 3 and drawn 1

Right, get you now. I'm still not convinced Hibs could cope with two competitive games on Astro in the space of 10 days.Happy to be wrong though.

We have an excellent record even more so since my edit, hence why i would be really confident in winning two games on succession.

I would be too, we train on 3G at East Mains when we need to and play well on the surface. When did we last lose on it, away to Falkirk last year?

Correct.

The irony too, is that we beat Hamilton in the first game of the play-off's comfortably and that was the first time we had played a competitive game on astro in years.

We will see what happens between now and the end of the season but it's night and day between Hibs this season and last - got to be confident we'd negotiate the play offs this time in the event the tribute act win the league.

Very different ties to last season
