One of the greatest pop songwriters of all time has sadly passed away aged 94.
The man was a true great in the history of popular music.
I love melody in songs, and Burt was right up there as one of the best, most melodic songwriters there has ever been.
He had a good innings, and his legacy will live on forever.

RIP Burt.

Not to forget a couple of admittedly motr songs but right up there on the melody/well-constructed scale: This guy's in love with you and Close to you - fantastic tunes.

RIP Burt, craftsman

Rhyming 'pneumonia' with 'he'll never phone ya' is a work of genius. Hope he wrote the lyrics ,but if he didn't the tunes were great. 'Alfie' got the best out of Cilla when truth be told she wasn't the best singer.'What's New Pussycat', 'Walk on By',so many in the pantheon of great music.Kareoke Queens take a bow.RIP Burt.

Hal David wrote the words

Superb songsmith and agree with all of the above. I particularly love "This guy's in love with her", "Magic Moments" (which my old man would sing the rude words to at parties) and "Say a Little Prayer" sung by Aretha.

RIP, might stick some of his tunes on now.

So many songs but a fave of mine is a bit newer , Arthurs Theme .Imagine being able to write such fantastic music / lyrics , what a skill

Bacharach/David, Lennon/McCartney, Holland/Dozier/Holland if you saw those names in brackets after songs you knew you were going to be listening to quality.

Loads of wonderful Bacharach/David songs were sung by a host of artists but they are most closely associated with Dionne Warwick.
Beautifully constructed music which meant if you wanted to play Bacharach tunes on guitar you had to ken yer minor 7ths, diminished and augmented chords.
I went to see him at the Playhouse once just to be in the same room as the great man and he was great.

In his later years he made a very good album with Elvis Costello called "Painted From Memory" which is well worth a listen. Here's Elvis looking like he's bricking it, giving it his very best vocal with the great man sitting closely behind him playing piano, listening to every note and controlling the musicians.

I'm a suckere for ballads and strong voices, particularly female.
Dionne Warwick has an amazing voice and I'll pick walk on by from her which isn't far off her best song Heartbreaker which was a BeeGees composition.

She also sang Anyone who had a heart but I prefer the Cilla Black version.

Herb Alpert was great but for the third I'll plump for Theres always something there to remind me..Sandy Shaw version.

But his talents brought so many varied songs like

Three wheels in my wagon
Raindrops keep falling on my head

I don't know what to do with myself (Dusty Springfield)
Make it easy on yourself Walker Brothers)
They long to be close to you (Carpenters)

You'll never get to Heaven if you break my heart

What the world needs now is love sweet love

Do you know the way to San Jose (Dionne Warwick)
24 hours from Tulsa (Gene Pitney)

On my own (Patty Labelle and Michael McDonald)

Long after tonight is all over (Jimmy Radcliffe) That one surprised me

Please stay Later done by crying shames which was a brilliant cover

And many more but also the list of people who sang these songs or later did covers would provide one of the greatest concerts ever if they all got together on one stage

There is also on you tube songs listed under the very best of Burt Bacharach
