Bookies' Odds 2026/27

I guess these are the official starting prices, with the Arabs & Huns hearing the 5-minute bell in the Tannadice dressing rooms.
The 130-1 about us is with a bunch called "A K Bet"🤔. No, me neither. I might Google them, but I'd want a good price about them being registered in a country where El Presidenté is likely to be defeated in a democratic election anytime soon.
The 10-11 Smellies is with the same "A K Bet" and a bunch called "Up"🤨. They're 9-10 on Betfair.
The same pair of cowboys call 6-4 about the Huns, so big hitters can theoretically back both Cheeks and make three times more than they would putting the money in a savings account.
"A K Bet" also the only firm offering 11-1 the Gunts.

AK bets are UK based and no worse than the rest of them.

😳 Fair enough! Most of these obscure firms are based in odd places - including ex-Soviet republics - but you're almost certainly correct that they're no worse than the Gibraltar & Malta tax haven firms and there's little chance of them going tits up

Starting prices in the Championship.
Livi drifted out from an opening 13-8, now joint favourites with Partick, who've been backed in from 5-2. Pars drifted out from the original 5-2.
ICT have come in slightly, Raith have walked from an opening 11-1. Ayr in from 20-1 after a 100% League Cup group stage. Arbroath out from 16-1. Morton were 28-1 on first show and seem in disarray.

Money for Ross Co. in League One, after opening at 4-5.
E.Kilbride and their subbuteo stadium backed in from 9-1, Accies not moved, Airdrie out from 5-1.
Alloa out from 11-1, Montrose out from 14-1, Peterhead out from 16-1, and you'd think someone with a syringe has been in action in the Dumfries stables with the QoS price more than doubling from 14-1.

...and the starting prices in the basement, where very little has changed. Every team is slightly longer odds than they opened, partly because bookies are cautious at lower levels and open with bigger margins in their favour, but also partly because more firms are now offering odds.
Stranraer and Annan have doubled in price.
Annan going down would be sad. They were elected because they seemed a stable club. That appears to be the case still, but "progressive", "vibrant", "ambitious" clubs that attract "investors" - EK, Kelty, Cove - seem to be more to the SFA's liking these days.

AK used to be part of Star Sports, I think they are separate now. Ben Keith is the boss at Star and used to work for Tony Bloom, maybe more crooked than I thought.

Aaaah!
I've lost touch with UK bookmaking but I noticed Star Sports used to have a supercilious ad in the Racing Post on Saturdays, proclaiming their willingness to take proper bets.
I also noticed maybe 10 years ago that they'd taken over what I think was once Victor Chandler's last betting shop - a palatial gaff next to the Dorchester Hotel on Park Lane in London. I didn't go in when it was Star Sports. Not been past it in 10 years, I doubt it's still there.
A professional gambler I used to know often frequented the place when it was VC's.
I mind going in there with him once, maybe 25 years ago. Proper doorman to keep out riff-raff. They had a VIP lounge, through a frosted glass door, minimum bet £50. Smoking still allowed then. I mind a large Greek-looking gentleman, smoking a fat 8-inch cigar that might have cost £100 swearing loudly in said VIP lounge as the horse he'd backed got beat. Nonce Clement Freud looked on disapprovingly. Exiting the shop, we passed England cricket captain Mike Atherton writing out a betting slip in the non-VIP plebs bit!

Said pro punter did mile handicappers in the flat season; less manically 3+ mile chasers, especially hunter chasers, in winter. Was working himself to an early grave as a pro punter. Maybe cleared 10% but was scared to take a holiday in the flat season.
The only other pro punter I've known did golf. He cleared a f**k sight more than 10% and would holiday in far-flung places in the summer. Studied like a bastard, mind, but his seemed an easy life. I doubt I'd have envied the horsey pro punter if I'd been working down a pit in Fife or on a trawler out of Fraserburgh.

Love hearing stories like that.
Only thing I can relate to that.
Playing snooker in Peterborough I was the youngest of a team of 6, I was 13 & Stephen Hendry 14 coming on 15. Lad approached him and said do you want a couple of frames for money. By this time the whole of the snooker world had heard of him. Stephen said I'll ask my dad. Gordon had his own fruit & veg business.
His dad came over and stuck a huge wad of cash on the table. The lad went white I think he was only wanting to play for £20 💩

If you were working on a purse-netter out of Fraserburgh just now you’d probably be making more than the pair of them put together - for going to sea about 3 times a year.

I've seen those programmes about fisherman. 40 fit waves. Need some stomach fur that.

The plebs bit 🤣

Looks like the shop is still there. A bit on there website reporting on the days on course action from Goodwood. A blast from the past with interviews with Patrick Vietch in there as well.

4-9 for the first leg v. the Albanians... the same price we were away to the other Albanians in the first leg... and at East End Park in January.
2-7 to qualify.
I'd expect this to be more difficult than the odds suggest😑.

Well favs for the first leg in Helsinki😳 and 1-2 to win the tie. Bookies being complimentary to them with those prices.
Gunts 12-1 to win in Lisbon and 7-1 to qualify. Not generous. Benfica didn't lose a League game under Mourinho last season but only finished 3rd. Having to slum it in the early rounds of the Europa League as a 2nd division team won the Portuguese Cup. Still, it'll be a nice trip for the Gunts fans.
Huns comfortably favs in the northeast of Poland. Polish teams improved a lot in Europe last season, but I expect the Huns to qualify.

Bookies rate our chances of being a 1st leg lead back to ER as slightly better than Patrick's chances of winning inside 90 minutes tomorrow.

Surprisingly, we were still 20-1 for the League Cup on Saturday morning.
BetVictor now offering a stand out price of 10-1. 1000002272.jpg

Actually think we have a slightly better chance than the bookies reckon and we've come in a bit since the weekend.
Considering the tanning they got from Sturm Graz, the Gunts are short enough v. Rapid. Not without a chance though.
The Smellies put away Jablonec comfortably 3 or 4 years back. Don't see the Huns having problems, but I thought they'd beat Bialystok. Do Jablonec not play in Hibs kits🤔?
Don't see Motherwell giving Freiburg much of a test😕.
You can't blame 'Well and the clubs up against Monaco, Brighton, Atalanta, Getafe, Ajax and the like for being slightly miffed at the system.
On balance, I just about support the Goddamncommiefagpinko rule that guarantees five diddies places in the League Stage, via the "Champions Path" - redistribution of wealth, 'n' aw.
However, if you're playing an English or Italian team at this stage, seeing diddies with only Lincoln Red Imps, Klaksvik or I.C.Escaldes between them and the riches of the League Stage must be a mite aggravating.
