Religion Blame the press

From that article & research therein, it's pretty obvious the guy is a grade A **** and all that's been wrong with the kirk.

But, if you believe that all abortion is wrong/evil/murder at any stage of gestation then at least he seems to be consistent.

It's just that he seems to think a bit of child rape can in some instances actually be not the life ruining, all pervasive, destructive experience that it is 100% of the time.

It makes me think of the way pedarist predators consider their innocent sexual pass-time, cause, well, no-one's saying 'No', are they?

And, if you condition someone, well, you can normalise anything.

Thank God I'm an Athiest. It would be hard to be a Christian and to keep having to read reports like this.:dunno:

I've no appetite for getting into this one other Than to note the tabloid on speed style of the article. Strip out all the writers suggestions and focus on what is quoted, and then imagine an equally biased take from a different viewpoint. To give but one example - the passage about lack of gossip inhibiting appreciation of the problem.

Take the priests actual words, consider the way they are presented, the imagine they were presented like this;

Priestly boy ruminated on the closed nature of the church as an institution, the fine line between avoiding scurrilous gossip and the refusal to openly discuss issues, and the process of institutionalisation squashing the latter in the name of the former.

And so on.

No idea for this article if the fella is a wrong un or not, given its shrill and propagandic tone.

It's pretty evident that there's a vey high likelihood that he's a coverup merchant though. And given that combined with the evidence that he was not only supporting (which isn't necessarily wrong on the face of it) definite wrong-uns when accused, but also financially supporting them when they fucked off to avoid the music, he's not really provided a situation for anyone to do anything but scoff derision at his pishy excuses.

Totally agree the tone of the article is not very measured. But, I don't think this is unduly sensationalist.

The two things are so totally different it makes him sound an even bigger coverer upper.

Right or wrong abortions are legal in many parts of the world.

Child abuse as perpetrated by and institutionally covered up for decades, maybe longer, is seen as abhorrent by every legal system on the planet.

First of all it was denial. Then it was aye but everyone else is doing it too. Now its not as bad a crime as something that isnt a crime.

I'm afraid I will have nothing but disdain for the Church until they are all singing from the same hymn book and singing an admission that it was wrong, they were wrong accompanied by full disclosure.

I still respect the religion.
