What sort of spec or budget?

What sort of spec or budget?

3-4 GB, decent memory, webcam (we use skype), decend speaker, ideally 300 to 400 with some word etc software included as PC world charge extra for this?

Found this:

Acer Aspire Timeline 3810TZ-414G25n - P SU4100 / 1.3 GHz - RAM 4 GB - HDD 250 GB - GMA 4500MHD - Gigabit Ethernet - WLAN : 802.11b/g/n - Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium - 13.3 Widescreen TFT 1366 x 768 ( WXGA ) CineCrystal - camera (Open Packaging) LX.PE602.045 - PC World Business Online Store UK - Buy The Best Deals Online.

Despite it being PC World, it actually looks like a good deal (so long as it's in good nick). This particular laptop makes the PC Pro 'A-list' which I think is a pretty good recommendation. Normally retails around 500+

Only thing lacking is the software you're after, but if it's just word processing you need then Open Office will be fine. It probably comes with MS Works though. (If not, then it's not too difficult to find cheap versions of MS Office).

Funny, my wife picked this one last night? I wasn't sure about the 13 inch screen, is that no a wee bit wee? She uses it for her photography?

Perhaps, but it does mean that it's a pretty portable laptop.

I've not seen everything but I reckon that you're struggling to get a bigger screen for that kind of money.

Sorry to hear about the theft mate.

You could try using Kelkoo.co.uk, it will allow you to search with what you're looking for ie budget, specs, screen size etc.

However just having had a quick look this might be close to what you're looking for regarding screen size

Also you could try the Microsoft Ultimate Steal which gives you Office 2010 for 50 or if you can't get hold of the relevant email address then this is just as good, and it's legitimate software  http://www.software4students.co.uk/

IMO the CPU is weak and is pretty dated technology. Seems to tick your other boxes though.

I reckon the one posted by KH is the strongest out of the 3 posted on this thread (AMD do seem to give better bang for buck at the lower end of the CPU market) and it's only 20 more than this one you've found. That's the one I'd go for (got the bigger screen and is not a refurb like the one I posted).

Its the toshiba or this one, which would you choose.........

Acer Aspire 5551

Not that much between them tbh, personally I would go for the Acer although Toshibas are normally reliable makes it just seems that the Acer is a better option (just personal preference as there is very little technical differences)

Have you used this site to buy anything? Seems to good to be true if I'm honest. I'm desperate for a laptop and need to find the cheapest (high quality) software such as MS Office, Adobe Creative Suite/Photoshop, etc.

100% legit as long as you/family member qualify, I've also used the ultimate steal site for my Win7 upgrade, a lot of the software houses would rather have somebody pay a small percentage for a licence than taking an illegal download.

Fantastic! Does it have Photoshop, Creative Suite and the like?

Andy/ TariqE, thanks for the advice guys, Acer it is, can pick one up from PC World today.

Sorry can't recommend one but I would advise you to stay away from a Dell Inspiron. Got mine to replace my 17" fujitsu amilio. It has been nothing but a nightmare. Battery life is shocking, lucky if I get half an hour from a fully charged battery. its slow as a hearts striker and it has a mind of its own. Daughter got one about the same time and she has exactly same problems. Avoid at all costs. Have gone back to using the Fujitsu which although 8 years old out performs the Dell by a country mile.

We had a Dell Inspiron stolen. We have replaced it with the Acer mentioned above and so far so good.
