Barlaser released by Middlesborough

Can have decent games.

But for the money you would expect he wants...we could get better.
Supposedly on about 6k a week.

Against the likes of Kilmarnock or St Mirren he's a baller.
Falkirk, Livingston, Dundee, Hearts, Hunco, Celtic, Motherwell he's a waste of space.

Chaiwa has been doing double work to make up for his immobility.
Chaiwa has had the hardest job at the club since becoming a regular now I mention him.

When he had time and space he could pass the ball really well, however you rarely get that time and space in this league.
Just don't think he was suited to our game up here.
However I have a feeling we might try to sign him.
I think the manager rates him as he was selected for just about every game.

In a different formation he’d be a good asset - he’d get the space and time to do him thing in a three man midfield. And his lack of running would be covered.

No. Though he's totally a DG player.

Interestingly the departed Motherwell manager thought he was our best player....

Better midfield players - or at least midfield players better-suited to Scottish football - are available for a lot less than £6,000pw.
There most likely are - though I can't think of their names off the top of my head.

As for Barlaser I thought he had a pretty decent season. He certainly played more forward passes , successful ones at that, than Joe Newell has in the last 4 seasons.

If we're replacing Barlaser with one of these better, cheaper options then that's great.

If we're not trying to resign him because JN is fit again then I fear for next season.

I don't expect Joe to be a starter next season either. But I would expect better than Barlaser too.

It depends on the manager.
If he is going to stick with the slow build , side to side stuff then he will be looking to keep Newell and probably add Barlaser.
If he is willing to be a bit less cautious, then there is no place for Newell and Barlaser will( should) be a bit part player.
A more progressive approach would not include either of the two for me.

Get him in for Newell

Least he went forward

Don't think either of them should be in. Newells been doing his badges this week, I reckon he starts the transition into coaching and spends most of his time on the bench.

Get someone new in!

Mulligan, Chaiwa and McGrath don't need a ball player between them, they need someone who can dig in imo.
