I'm not surprised, are the tickets not 2 or 3 times the cost of a ticket at darkheid? 50/60?
.
STF was also in the news during the week lamenting the poor take up of tickets?
.
I'll bite my tongue criticising them for their commercial greed around this Pastoral visit.

Thats approx how many tickets left to see the Pope as only a third of the 2500 tickets are sold in Ireland, come on Martyrs of the bounce unite and make the pilgramage.

Bounce tours possibly or are all the devout catholics with Irish roots on here blow hards.:077:Erin go bragh

The catholic church has probably reached a low point over here in terms of the trust in the institution.

I think devout catholics on the bounce are very much in the minority though?

Bit off topic question: Why are catholics usually described as 'devout' and protestants as 'staunch'?

Because as soon as one adjective is claimed by one tribe, the other tribe has to say the same thing in a different way. If they started using the same language the adherents might realise there's not actually that much difference between the sects.

I'm sure that 1000 answers could be posted to my question but this would probably be the best.

oh FFS. One minute it's griping about use of taxpayers money, next the church are greedy for trying to fund half of it themselves.

Putting "staunch catholic" and "staunch protestant" into google returns a suspiciously identical 17300 hits apiece.

Catholics win out on devoutness by orders of google magnitude but :burnout:

Im not sure I did gripe about the use of tax payers money. In the other thread I merely asked what the arrangements were for the UKs official heads of state trips abroad and vice versa. Not sure anyone was able to answer.

Ive never seen any mention, anywhere of the Church contributing the official cost and if the 50 / 60 is close to the truth then personally I think that's a bit much. If you cant afford to go as a family then families wont go. I got the feeling that was intention, families, rather than just rich RCs.

Sorry Jack, I'm referring to the wider hubbub surrounding this where both viewpoints are going back and forth.

Er what is the church? The church is it's members. The church is financing it's share in various ways.

If you can't afford it, your way is paid for you.

as I say, those who can't afford it don't pay or don't pay the whole lot.

I'd turn your question round mind you - from an affordability point of view, it kind of shows how nuts football is. To get into a once in a lifetime event, three times the length of a football match, and with lots more costs etc costs 2 or 3 times what people pay to get into football every week, and is considered expensive - and is indeed expensive.

What are we all doing paying what we do to get into the football? I had the wife and kids with me yesterday and it cost me just shy of seventy quid to get in. we must be bonkers.

reading between the lines, re costs of Papal visit, when Someone Truly Famous was interviewed during the week he gave assurances that all costs were/would be covered. No matter the uptake on tickets. So I'm guessing that some Papal Knight might be picking up the shortfall. Anybody ken any PK's? :dunno:

Was at the last one. Once you've seen one Pope, you've seen thum aw. :coffee:

Is your google broken? My 'staunch catholic' produces 118,000 results and 'staunch protestant' returns 822,000 results!

In Scotland, its 20 per person to go to the mass at Bellahouston, though, as stated above, nobody is prevented from going if they can't afford it. What's more likely to discourage people is the organisation - everybody has to travel in a parish group at times designated by Stagecoach, which involves getting there hours before the start and waiting for your appointed exit time afterwards.

Did you put "s around the phrases?

If not you've got results for staunch and catholic in the same page, rather than 'staunch catholic'. running the searches with no quotes just now, I got 75k staunch catholics and 157k protestants. This google fella seems like a bit of a dodgy geezah.

Is it the same Strathclydes finest Police force that will be stewarding the event as handles the football crowds?

Canny see the blue rinse (or would it be a green rinse in this case?) brigade being happy at being manhandled by that mob. The toilet arrangements are going to be interesting, with a huge crowd of oldies there it may just be better to issue them all with incontinence pants on the way in?:lookaround:

Thank you for enlightening me :glassraise:

I see Ricky Burns is to lead the procession through Edinburgh. Any disruptive Orangemen might think twice now about attacking the carnival head on :boxing:
