Who do you want to be the next Scotland manager?

I know I've mentioned them a few times here, but I've no issues with the grandparent rule or foreign players born here.

The hardship there, is convincing them for Scotland in the youth and unders programs. They only want to play for us once they know they won't play for England or wherever else.
Or have players like McGeady who see greener grass in Ireland.

I'm all for us having a pathway like a Spain, same players in all those categories coming up and succeeding together. I just don't think Scotland is a country that can accommodate that.
Not unless they all play for Hunco and Celtic actual squads. With the handful who go away and actually succeed going away and making up the rest. Robertson, McGinn, Ferguson types. But they're few and far between.

2 or 3 players in our current unders squad will make the full team. The rest of the full team are either in the squad now, or will declare for Scotland later. A handful might burst into the scene in their 20s having never played a youth international.
And that's how it'll always be I think.
We need to clear out the dinosaurs in the SFA and SPFL and move away from the leagues that see everyone play everyone else 4 times a season because, quite apart from the drudgery, the leagues are too tight and don't allow managers any leeway to include youngsters regularly, which is a must if we want the NT to progress positively. We also need a competitive reserve league brought back in so that youngsters can go from development squads to reserve football to perhaps a wee loan spell in a lower league and then games for the first team.

Apart from that, of course, we need a forward-thinking manager at the helm of the NT, but with the SFA doing the searching, it's more likely we'll end up with the cheapest option available.

I know that bringing youngsters through regularly will take time, but if we don't start, it will take forever.

There’s a fair bit evidence that the decline in the Scottish player development started around 1975 with switching to the premier league and playing 4 times a season

So who are all those who were desperate for Clarke to go wanting as next manager?

Here's another problem I think we have as a national team. A manager like Clarke, or say McGlynn isn't going to be able to get the best out of the players as a coach.

Players like McGinn, McTominay, Robertson, Doak, Gilmour and a few others are being coached by some top quality managers. When they get to the national team, Clarke and his backroom staff aren't anywhere near the level of how these players are being coached on a daily basis.

These coaches are out of there depth trying to coach and manage our elite players and can't bring anything to the table. They won't be getting the best out of them and are setting us back.

Look at McGinn. He was a good player when he first joined Villa and his form started to dip when Gerrard became the manager. As soon as Emry became manager, he kicked on tremendously and has been in the form of his life under Emry.

Clarke or any other old school Scottish managers aren't going to take this team to the next level, they just aren't capable.

If I was to appointment a Scottish manager, I'd be looking at someone like Cathro.

One advantage of an increased World Cup would be that we would likely qualify again. Yippee!

We remain 42nd in the FIFA rankings.

The drop down menu and our 'all yrs' graph of placings doesn't make for an enjoyable read.

I don’t think international football is really about coaching, not in terms of making players better anyway, as there’s simply not enough time for that.

Every player in that Scotland squad is capable of pressing off the ball, capable of passing and moving with it, they don’t because that’s not the tactical structure used under Steve Clarke.

His replacement could quite easily come in and expect them to have more of the ball or be more aggressive in trying to win it higher up the park.

I think Clarke has a decent track record and was a coach at Chelsea so he’s not daft.

I think the results bit was the issue and we just couldn’t break into the top 40, 30 or even 20 of the FIFA rankings which brings with it easier games. Nor could we survive in the uefa nations A league

The style was the killer, though, going to hampden was generally painful of late and whilst the Denmark game was great, it was fortunate and a change of style was needed for the world cup. Yes we were unlucky with the draw but again at a major tournament we played for 0-0 draws.

Even if it hadnt been expanded...we would of still qualified.

Thats something alot of people seem to forget.

Somehow we got there on merit.

I haven't voted.
I'm in the "don't really care about international football camp".

I've only bothered posting this reply so I could type
FFS RYAN, IT'S COULD HAVE, NOT COULD OF - EVERY FUCKIN TIME YOU AWARD US BY SHARING THE DRIVEL BOUNCING (see what I did there?) AROUND IN YOUR MENTAL NUT YOU POST THIS SHITE - IT HAS TO STOP!!!

Personally I'd go for Joseph Guardiola 😁

He just does it to be noticed.

Strange choice if true, but there you go.
It's all about the players though, and we don't have enough of them who are international class.
WC exposed the true standard of our players and was a sad indictment of our coaching and nurturing of players as a nation since the early 1980's.

Apparently Pocognoli was among the contenders to replace Derek McInnes at Hearts before they appointed Wouter Vrancken.
Won the league with USG in Belgium but was heavily backed by Tony Bloom and Jamestown Analytics. That said, I'm more optimisitic about this appointment than 90% of the other candidates quoted.
