Tbf while working in North America I was stunned at the distances they would drive for what we'd consider a day trip or weekend away.

Two weeks ago I was in Connecticut suffering from a massive hangover and splitting headache, and did a 200 mile round trip (I wasn't driving) to Boston for a 3 mile Parkrun

It's a big place and I guess they are used to it!

The big, wide, straight roads help cover those distances. Wait till these American tourists drive along a B road for the first time!

Went to Edinburgh for the day once (from Nottingham on the train). Spent four hours there in the Guildford Arms and Cafe Royal then went home.
