Or you could say it started in the 1960s when Israel started occupying Palestine, or earlier than that as Israel started racking up breaking UN Conventions and international law violations.

Up until the early 70s lebanon was a reasonably stable country for that region although there were tensions. The PLO brought the trouble to the country.
The Israelis didn't go into lebanon until the late 70s after a massacre near tel aviv carried out by lebanon based palestinians.
Hezbollah, an iranian backed terrorist organisation are responsible for the current state of affairs. They knew Israel would overreact to their current attacks just as hamas knew Israel would overreact over the October massacres.
None of the 3 of them give a shit about civilians caught up in it all.

United Nations Security Council resolutions against Israel started as soon as Israel was formed, 1948!

Maybe I should have said "by today's standards". Saudi Arabia actually became a lot more hard line after the Shia revolution in Iran in the 70s. Their own Sunni clerics were kicking up a fuss and the Saudi royal family fearing that they too could be overthrown like the Shah decided that they would bow to the theocrats and create a tougher line on religious observance.

I've been to Saudi quite recently and it seems they've actually chilled out a lot. I never expected to have laughed as much as I did though I did encounter one of two authoritarian dickheads. The one female member of our team refused to wear a headscarf and nobody batted an eyelid.

You’re kidding eh? It’s due to the militaristic actions of that pair of arseholes that Jews have become (more) of a target. As the Americans proved by sinking an Iranian ship well away from the active combat zone, you don’t have to be within that zone to be considered a target.

I gather he arrived in the uk as a child and at some point thereafter would have been granted citizenship.

As for mental health. I’m starting to think there’s more folk with mental health problems than not.

Yup. Jews attacked in this country is the fault of a war thousands of miles away. Islamists blow up kids at a concert or behead folk in the street and it's all don't look back in anger.
China has about a million Uighur Muslims in concentration camps, sterilising them, using them as slave labour and bulldozing their mosques but no-one is attacking the local takeaways in London.

Armed police would've been within their rights to shoot him? walking forward holding a bladed weapon.
