A wonderful all inclusive way to describe the celebrations, religious and otherwise, that cover December and New Year.

Christmas and New Year sounds good to me. Winterval sounds like the half time break at the pantomime or the SPL shutdown.

Has somebody decreed Christmas and New Year (or Hogmanay) defunct? :lookaround:

Bit contrived. Also scary overtones of Mike and Bernie Winters.

I'll stick with Christmas and Hogmanay/New Year as usual.

Just wondering if Jack's post referred to some new edict from on high...

I've noticed it referred to as "Holidays" recently, as in "Happy Holidays". Personally, Christmas will always be Christmas for me no matter how non-pc it is.

"So here it is Merry Winterval, everybody's having fun":banger:

Unless you're in the Southern Hemisphere. Your unthinking, hemisphere excluding, cultural imperialism, is a sad indictment of just how little progress we have truly made in the quest for ekkkwality. :coffee:

It's a shame that people jump to conclusions. As I said in the OP it's an 'all inclusive' term devised to ... err ... include everything that happens around this time of year, to include everything that happens around now and something we can all relate to!

When was Christ born? Wasn't Christmas. March if I recall correctly. (IIRC to upset the Doc :-) A typical example of a Church hijacking other folks festivals.

New Year, Hogmany, a truly unique Scottish festival hijacked by the rest of the world, on that date anyway.

The point I'm making is ...

Sometimes things are just not as complicated, or as indoctrinated, as people would have you believe.

The uncomplicated path duzny hurt yur feet as you walk/run through life.

Fishing, caught; indeed. So much so that you haven't felt the hook it appears.

The hook is all yours on this occasion. I cast the line and hope you learn.

Your bait was fairly obvious - to be ignored, or thrown back at you with the simple truth that your inclusive approach excludes half the world by default, quite apart from those who voluntarily exclude themselves from such hallmark card sentiments bequeathed to us by capitalism and its pc enablers.

Wee message to Jacko and Eegie, its called fuckin Christmas and its staying that way!
