What the actual fuck… back to a10 team league?

Dwarfed by the money they would make in the EPL.

Celtic in particular could become one of the biggest clubs in the world if in the EPL.
I don’t know what you find so funny Joe. EPL money vastly outweighs that from European competition. It’s just a fact.

If you find the Celtic bit hilarious, well fair enough. It’s beside the main point here and doesn’t change the argument. I do think you aren’t thinking sufficiently about what it would lead to though. Celtic in the EPL would be marketable everywhere people gather in an ‘Irish bar’ to watch the EPL ‘product’ - a perfect plastic fusion - to say nothing of the colossal Irish diaspora (which is bigger than the UK population).

You’re missing the part where they put their multi million pound players into their B team to ‘get up to match speed’ with the benefit of boosting the B team into winning the league. The Scottish league champions will still qualify for European competitions so, assuming they aren’t in a position to topple Arsenal, Man City etc they’ll still get to ply their trade in big money competitions. In a few years if their A team does qualify on merit from, say the EPL, they’ll have both A and B raking in the moolah.
Fair enough, my point is though, celtic, rangers, the national team and Scotland in general are substanard in comparison to other european clubs, national teams in general and I can’t see that changing anytime soon 👍 so there may well be a chance the uglies could disappear without trace 🤞

Such a pessimistic outlook 😢

I don’t think anyone would disagree that it would be a good thing if they left. But if they leave, they really have to leave, and not leave b sides behind. The spfl, Scottish media, and everyone else would be clamouring for them to keep b teams. We’d be reliant on uefa kiboshing it.

We mibby need to look into legally breaking away from the SFA then . How about an east of scotland premier league . ESPL 😜

Agree 100%. Allow them to keep B teams here and Sky Sports will be covering the likes of Spartans v The Rangers B. I believe the Scottish game would flourish without them but sadly it’s unlikely ever to happen.

Title says it all, an absolute disaster if it happens, who wants it, why do they want it, is it the bigot 2 pushing it?
Can’t believe we could go back to the very thing that was the start of the destruction of our game 🙈
Thing is the skinter teams will be all for a ten league with 4 gurenteed home ugly fixtures per season 😩. So long as the rangers stay afloat of course 🤣

And how many meaningless games are there now? The league is decided before a ball is kicked. I’d far rather be winning most weeks like our time in the championship, interspersed with some big games. In fact, within the bounds of what’s possible, that’s close to ideal imo
As I said , I have no answer.
The landscape has changed completely in the intervening years, but the end result is the same.

If the A team sisters were playing in a "better" league what better opportunity than have a B team feeder club playing in Scotland. You can bet your life the wages would very soon match or exceed the rest up here. Within a very few seasons it would be as if they never left.
You think that Eufa would let clubs have teams in 2 different countries? Absolutely no chance

On what basis ? The spfl wouldn’t stop it, they’d still cling to their beloved ‘product’ and the A teams would be nothing to do with them. Only UEFA or FIFA could stop it. But any settlement that allowed them to continue in Scotland would see them dominate.
Wouldn’t happen. Zero possibility

Hopefully not - as i said we would be reliant on them to quash it. I think there is a high chance they'd allow it in the context of a European league being set up. Little chance in two domestic leagues.

OK mate I have to say I don't see it any other way. More money being made by the A teams would surely enhance the B team standard.
How do you see it panning out?
The main point, the only point is. More chance of san marino winning the World Cup than any of the above ever happening. Its nonsense to think a club can have teams in 2 different countries leagues 🙈

Then again @Hattie What would stop a 'celtic football group' containing the clubs Celtic who play in the EPL and Glasgow Celtic who play in the SPL?

Never happen unless as you say European leagues take over domestic football

That's not out the realm of possibility. At one time the nations league tournaments ruled and Europe was a wee midweek bonus.

Look how that has changed. It's all about the cash Stu.

Licensing?
Eufa wouldn’t give it a licence I’d imagine

I see there are different scenarios up for discussion, 10, 14, 16 etc.
Seems the weegie friendly journos are pushing the back to 10 version. Must be the best option for the only two clubs that matter to them.

Yeah

Yeah but not a chance of a club having teams playing in different countries domestic leagues

So the weegie media using their obsession with weeginess and the bigotry that comes in hand with it, only mention 1, the very 1, idea of a change, and it just so happens to favour the bigoted scumbags from their very city?
Who would’ve guessed…

Yeah

Yeah but not a chance of a club having teams playing in different countries domestic leagues

MCFC playing in the Australian league. Celtic and Rangers have everyday names that handily are not geographically tied. I don't see why they could not set up football groups with other clubs called Celtic and Rangers within them, separate to Glasgow Celtic and Glasgow Rangers.

Bung UEFA etc a few quid and you will be allowed to do whatever you want. Brown Paper Envelopes or the modern equivalent.

They would have to buy another club playing in Scotland if they formed a group, like the City group have, would they not?

Dunno. But if they were offered a place in the EPL I'm sure they could easily buy up a couple of Scottish wee clubs for the places they wanted to keep in Scotland. Bear in mind every fecker would be bending over backwards to help them.

Airdrie would be a shoe in for the Huns. Maybe Clyde or Albion Rovers for the mhankys.

Rangers of Midlothian? Albion Celtic Rovers?

They may be BIG in Scotland , they are nowt anywhere else. A lot of exaggerating goin on here 🤣
Why do we think the EPL treat them the way they do. Their fanbase is why 🤮

They are nowt elsewhere because they are stuck in Scotland earning coppers. Celtic and rangers would, with epl money, be massive. Its just a fact.

Who has got a bigger support in the UK? Man U I'd say, maybe arsenal. That's about as far as I'd go with any certainty. Celtic would also get a whole bunch of Irish descended English people switching to them. Then there is the tv audience, as above, celtic in particular would soon be a massive draw.

They wouldn't turn it around in season one. But it ten or twenty years they'd be right up there.

We’ll just have to agree to disagree. Anyway like I said THEY will never get into England , mainly because of their fans. OUT 👍

100% agree. Under current rules you cannot be affiliated to two separate FA's.

If that were to be allowed what would stop any English Club putting a "B" Team in the SPFL.

In addition FIFA/UEFA would take the opportunity to force a British National Team

It will never happen., IMO

A 10 team top league was a disaster in the mid 1970's when it first appeared.
Eddie Turnbull predicted from the start it would just encourage fear and negative football...and he was right.
The problem is that finance runs football now from top to bottom.
Clubs in Scotland, not just the Old Firm, will vote for any change which will increase revenue.

Substandard to the top teams in some leagues (obviously not the English ones cos theyre "overhyped" etc ) but they'd soon hold their own when the money started coming in

Prob, as many have said, IF they went south they wouldn’t be allowed to have teams in two countries 👍

But which leagues are you describing as the top leagues in Europe ? England , Spain , Germany who else ? how many others have more than 1 or 2 top teams ? I'm not thinking there are many . Even Germany is a bit one sided

Italy - a couple, France - one horse race?, Netherlands - a couple only?

If the SPFL want to do something radical what about amalgamating the Scottish and English league cups?

Bonnyrigg Rose v Man Utd…

Since the 2000s (starting with 99/00) six teams have one serie a, seven have won ligue 1, five the eredivisie.

In the bundesliga it’s six, la Liga it’s five.

Now it’s got worse in most of them in the last ten to 15 years but still light years ahead of our clownshow!

Hunco and Celtic would

They're already guaranteed 4 games. Surely the missed game against either us Aberdeen or Hearts if one of us finish bottom 6 isn't making any more money?

What makes you think that?
Apparently decisions on owning a second team up here are now case by case basis. Can you think of a single case where they wouldn't accept a second club owned by either of those clubs? Not a chance.

Likelihood is the colt teams would be registered as a separate entity and be allowed to continue and I wouldn't bet against them being voted in to replace the current clubs in the top flight.

Hopefully the clubs would be able to argue against that and he a part of the voting. We'd at least get a few years to destroy the coefficient and make it a complete waste of time for them having clubs here.

If they were categorically leaving Scottish football, I think the powers would actively seek to keep them a part of the furniture up here.
If it was a 50/50 I think they'd threaten no licenses, but they'd fold, on any given weekend there would still be 50'000 of either club not travelling to an away game in England, plenty appetite to follow a B team too.
Probably come in the cost of a normal season ticket for them.
