Father in law rang me up on Sunday and demanded to know why I hadn't been more "emphatic" with my tip. "You didn't sound that certain so I didn't back them!" he said.

Gently suggested that just because they'd come in didn't mean I was that sure about the outcome of a 40-runner four mile handicap that was ultimately won by a short head!

I had a look at Grand National horse names the afternoon of the race to see if any names jumped out at me.....Boo!

That very morning I had been at Morrisons bakery and plumped for some salt and pepper flavoured rolls rather than the plainer Tiger Rolls alongside.

A Tenner was placed on that same Nag and was quickly turned into 110 after a nervy finish.

Thank you God Almighty for the heads up but shame on you also for not making me “go large” on it.
