Victorian style philanthropy from some city guy has seen 200m out of his pocket put into developing the town of Bishop Auckland. Would be good if more rich folk did this sort of thing, over and above funding state efforts via tax.
Unfortunately the closest example I can think of close to home is the chap who has decided to fund hearts. Which is really ‘doing it wrong’.
