Aye I'm the same on the single player games. I think I played Pro Evo online a handful of times about 20 year ago and that was me done 🤣 Very grateful for this roguelike genre coming along!

Online can be very frustrating now. Rouguelikes are OK but can get tedious. But each to our own 🎮

Defo! I do wish I was any cop at FPS games, they look class to play if I was actually capable..

And with that sentence I've probably never felt so old 👴

Anyone got a Nintendo Switch 2? Considering getting one for its portability to play during my lengthy trips away from home. But it's still very expensive, looking at 400 quid for the console alone. And I only really want it for the Zelda games and possibly FIFA.

@Doc Shrink Goldeneye was the absolute GOAT in first person shooters! There were others before it like Doom and Wolfenstein but Goldeneye was just so fast and smooth and had the multiplayer element that made it a game changer. Odd Job shooting you in the bogs - great times!

Oooft, how desperate are you for Zelda?

At that price a Steam Deck seems like way better value as a handheld. No Nintendo exclusives but pretty much everything else that's ever existed...

Edit: Actually, scrap that. Just looked. Fifa is Windows only on PC. It's no use to you.

Other thing I was considering was a PlayStation Portal, works over WiFi but connects to the PS5 in your house to do the processing. All seems a bit clunky but seen a boy at the airport playing one and it looked cool. They're a bit cheaper at around 170 quid. Other option is I just buy a second hand PS5 and bring it out here with me but it'll probably get choried when I'm away during my downtime! Might look into Steam Deck.

You will know better the circumstances you work in, but instinctively that description of how PS Portal works doesn't sound a good fit for you being stationed over in the gulf and possibly off shore. In short I fear it would be laggy af.

Next time you are home may be worth experimenting in reverse by connecting your PS5 to middle Eastern servers when playing a game and see how it feels. Though those servers will be surrounded by stuff that helps performance while I can't figure out how they would achieve that when your PS5 is acting as the server to a portal device.

That said, they're smarter than me and must have thought of this if they are selling it as something that can be used remotely (and assuming they don't place limits on how remote is remote!). But I'd encourage you to check out this aspect of it.

Ps @Hibee Kev

This is encouraging. But note the points about needing to be on a good and not congested network in your location. Or have a boatload of roaming data in your tariff!

Thinking of jumping back into Fallout 4 having recently finished Season 2 of the TV adaptation. Still have the base game to complete plus all the expansion packs. Got scunnered first time round with having to constantly maintain settlements and the grind of constantly having to scavenge for raw materials.

76 has become the better game. But it's not a real fallout experience.

Really disappointed in 4 after loving 3 and NV.

The bandwidth here is decent. Just checked download and upload speeds and both around 300Mbps. Just read you can use the Playstation servers as opposed to your own PS5 but need a premium PS Plus subscription, could be an option.

Similar. I think there is a re-master of 3 in the pipeline. NV was really buggy as I recall.

My mate keeps pestering me to get a Switch 2 just to play bloody Mario Kart. Don't think I can justify the price though as not enough games to fork out that amount for a console.

I have a Rog Ally X which is more expensive but you can do alot with it. Have my Steam library on it, play the PS5 remotely, access Xbox live and loads of emulators and roms. You can play classics all the way up to PS4, possibly beyond now. And if you want a big screen just hook it up to the TV. Just downloaded all Pro Evos the other week.

With Fifa or FC as its called now I don't think it's the best on a smaller screen. Might just be me though.

You can buy fully loaded hard drives with games from classics to almost the latest releases.

The Rog worth it?
I thought about getting the big non Xbox branded one because you can still do all the same stuff, just minus an Xbox button I think?
Not sure what else is different? I think you get the dashboard on the older one now too.

Yeah I have the second version before the Xbox one was released. The Xbox branded one is slightly more powerful and slight revamp in design. It's essentially a mini Windows PC. Just look at all the things you can do. Defo worth it. Had mine for a couple of years now. Not had any issues with games, it's handled everything and the display is very good even though not Oled.

I hadn't even heard of it until Xbox tried to sell me their one and I went looking 😅

Think I'll give it a look again!
Cheers

A few different ones out now but depends what you're looking for spec wise and your budget etc. Alot of folk rave about the Steamdeck which is similar.

Pretty much everything you listed 😅

Xbox is the main console, PS for the exclusives, don't have much on steam tbf, city builders and sim types. So pc games less of a issue.

I'll need to give this a go when it comes out. Narrative puzzle game where you play as the VAR ref. Looks like you'll get the chance to go full mason if you want too:

Welcome to the Virtual Referee Room!

Your job as a Virtual Referee is to inspect football replays and identify infringements.

As new regulations are introduced over time, you need to pay more attention to each replay as it could contain multiple infringements - all of this with the pressure of fans that expect you to make a quick and fair decision.

Throughout the narrative, you will unveil more information about how the company works and decide what path you want to take on your journey as a Virtual Referee. Will you always make fair decisions? Are there external influences in play? That is all up to you.

Good luck.

No Mario games.
Shame on you 🎣

Crimson Desert just around the corner. Anyone diving in?
Seems too good to be true by all accounts?

Super Mario World on the SNES probably one of my all time favourite game TBF!
Went to Tynecastle High School with a lad in the 80's. He was right into gaming and was a computer nerd at school, you really were a nerd if you liked computing at school. The first guy in the school with the original NES. Anyway lost touch with him then saw an article a few years back in EEN. Turns out he was one of the head recruiters for Halo & worked for Bunjie.

I was mesmerised with the NES. I had the usual Grandstand, Atari, Commodore 64. But this thing was on a different level.

It looks good I have to say. Huge in scale. Monitoring and waiting for the reviews to come out first before I decide to buy.

Got No Man’s Sky for the PSVR2 and it’s pretty epic on first impressions. Kids were loving it and seem to have gotten the hang of the controls a lot quicker than me!

Finished the DLC part of Indiana Jones and the great circle yesterday and it finished with one of the best final boss fights I’ve ever payed. Video below but contains loads of spoilers so best avoided if anyone intends to play it.

Can't get to grips with No Man's Sky. There's no tutorial so got bored with after a while. Shame, as I liked the premise and the look and feel of it.

Aye launches you straight into it and all your equipment is buggered and you have to fix it! Only really got it as it’s one of the few highly rated VR games that are suitable for kids. Will persevere.

Is the VR worth buying and if so what is the one to buy?

We have the PSVR2 for the PS5 and it is very impressive but the limited number games (particularly kids ones) plus the high price tag make me think it’s probably not worth it.

Gran Turismo 7 is amazing though. Want to try the Boxing one and the Walking Dead one looks quality too.

I’ve tried the Oculus/Meta quest VR for PC and it’s similar in terms of price tag but has a much more vast range of software. My old work used it to render/simulate gas systems they’d fabricated for training purposes which was cool.

I had a blast of that and it was good fun
Nackered after knifing everything in sight though 😅

The headset gave me a migraine after a wee while though, I'm no built for VR 😢

The Oculus VR makes me tired so rarely use but does have some fun stuff on it as you say.

Crimson Desert received very mixed reviews initially with the likes of IGN giving it 6/10. User reviews are bringing it's overall score up. Could be another No Mans Sky as updates coming which may make big changes to the game.

Games so much better than those reviews.
First few hours aren't the best, but I'm loving it just now.

RIP Real Racing 3.

Bastards at EA Games switched it off a week or so ago.

Been playing it for about 10 years. Alas no more.

I remember when they done that to Battle for Middle Earth 2!

Have to join custom servers if I want a scrap now and they're waaay more hardcore than the old game 😢

Aye, there's folk apparently trying to get something downloadable but all I've seen so far is 'watch this space, announcement in two weeks' type stuff for the last few months 🤔

The criticisms I've seen is it's boring and it feels empty. Some of the mechanics of the game feel too complicated apparently.

On the flip side as you are saying folk are saying 20 or so hours in they're loving it. Aside from IGN
:giggle.

I probably will pick it up soon.

Got a fair few hours under my belt in Slay the Spire 2 now and I'm enjoying it just as much as the original. It's a more-of-the-same-with-extras type sequel which suits me fine, but I don't see it taking me as long to get good at it, so it might not rack up the same number of hours as the first game.

Also been playing and enjoying this one I picked up in the Steam sale. Puzzle/shooter hybrid with a moody horror vibe where you play a sniper with magic bullets taking down an evil cult.

I've just started playing the first STS! I'm enjoying it, but it's not got the same draw as Balatro does.. Probably a good thing for me :D
