Victory to the people of the Kenmure St area of Pollockshaws who stopped a deportation going ahead. The Home Office just thought they could turn up in the middle of a pandemic arrest two people and drive them off to be processed to be deported. The people of the area showing some solidarity with the deportees said 'nah we're not having it' a small group in the beginning grew to hundreds within the proceeding hours the van the deportees were going nowhere, a couple of the protestors crawled under the van, the rest surrounded it. Anar Anwar the human rights lawyer (and a mate) was called in to negotiate. Eventually after some time the police realising that they were getting nowhere decided to release the two detainees. Victory to People Power.

Why were they being deported ??

"Suspected immigration offences"

I think the protests have been motivated by the rather ugly manner in which the UK home office are dealing with immigration rather than the specific gentlemen in the van though.
I saw photos but never caught the actual story

Fair brought a wee tear to my eye, amazing scenes.

Yep, victory to people power who didnt know why they were being arrested. A bit like these lovely people on the Istanbul flight who stopped a poor Somali man being deported. Turned out he was part of a gang that raped a 16 year old girl.
Unfortunately not all refugees are nice people that appreciate being in a reasonably safe country.

And not all of them are rapists either. Sadly a lot of them are being bundled into paddy wagons in raids regardless. It might be the case that these guys were really bad eggs, but I doubt the Government would be giving "suspected immigration offences" as the reason if they were suspected of something far worse.

Picking the worst case scenario to defend the government treating people like animals regardless of their situation boggles my mind.

Rapists, violent criminals, human traffickers and the like should be lifted like this. People fleeing war zones, famine and poverty we couldn't even imagine shouldn't.

I picked that scenario to show that unless you've got the facts you shouldnt interfere , who knows what these 2 have or havnt done. If they're illegal immigrants they'll be picked up and processed and if they've a legit reason for being here they'll be allowed to stay, if not then cheerio.
A lot of them come over from france which, to the best of my knowledge isnt a war zone.
If I tried to illegally enter a country then I would expect to be deported if caught.
Dont have a problem with anybody coming here to live and work so long as they've applied properly.

They should just allow the government to do whatever it wants to without question or action because they're all honest and do such a splendid job?
The immigration/asylum laws are at best unfair and at worst illegal.

Should we just allow anybody to come here then without checking who they really are and why they want to come here. As well as genuine refugees there are criminals escaping the law in there own countries , fighters from all sides in conflicts, including ISIS, would be terrorists.
In my experience most of them are young men of military age, very few families.
Surely an open door policy isnt in the best interests of anybody.

You implement a fair system. One that doesn't shred documents then deport people. I know that's immigration rather than asylum but the fact is the government do act illegally.

I think you've highlighted the problem yourself there. Some people are legitimately seeking asylum, some aren't. Some have a legitimate reason to have fled here without going through the proper channels (war, famine, persecution) others don't. The protests are happening because people are being treated the same way regardless. Blanket forced removals lack basic morals and empathy in my opinion.

Do you remember a few months ago when Baroness Jones in the Lords was laughed out the room for saying there should be a 6pm curfew on all men because of recent murders and attacks on young women? This is the exact same logic applied to immigration - bung them all in a police van and worry about it later. It's easy to support a black and white solution when they aren't coming for you.

I personally think it is great that people power is showing distaste for the populist cruelty currently endorsed by the Home Office in a public and visible manner.

I'd imagine there is someone Pritti pissed off down in Westminster right now.

You'll have surprised absolutely nobody with yet another pointless distraction.

yep, tug your forelock and leave it to those better than us. challenging those in power has never achieved anything positive after all, has it?

my opinion is a pointless distraction while yours is gospel , silly me, I get it now.
What have I said that isnt fact

you're trying to associate people who you know nothing about with a brutal rapist on the basis of nothing more than the fact they are immigrants, its quite Trumpian really

A lot of them. There was two guys in the wagon. What do you mean a lot of them?Unless of course your making sweeping statements without having any evidence and knowing the case.

Unfortunately for you I do know that a fair few of the people outside that van did know why these two were being arrested because they are mates of mine including Aamer Anwar the lawyer who got them freed.

Not unfortunate for me at all, I haven't said anything that isnt factual.
So why could Aamer Anwar not have intervened without all that commotion or does he just like the publicity

A lucky coincidence for the pair of them that a whole load of activists just happened to be strolling by just at the moment of arrest, I mean it would be impossible to imagine they knew the guys were going to be arrested beforehand but decided not to challenge it through the proper channels for maximum publicity.

You see only someone who has no idea how these things work, would ask that. It is rare for deportations to be stopped by anything other than direct action, and in a great many of these cases those that were due to be deported win their cases at appeal due to the Home Office having a culture of disbelief. Had they been deported many would have been killed on arrival 'home'.
But don't let your ignorance stop you spouting nonsense

I'm not trying to associate anybody with anybody and you well know it. And not all immigrants are illegal immigrants.
I must admit I do like some of the trying to be insulting buzz words to describe everybody that doesnt hold your esteemed opinion. Trumpian's another good one

I'm not ignorant and I'm not spouting nonsense.
I ask again, what have I said that isnt fact

Do you know that is in fact true?
As I said there is a big difference between the Home Office verdicts and the courts.
I dont understand ???
I said IF they're illegal immigrants.
I then said a lot of them, meaning illegal immigrants, come over from France which to the best of my knowledge isnt a war zone

I suppose they could end up in of those refugee camps that the French call Banlieues.
Spend a year in one of those and tell me that's living.

you're trying to link these two to a rapist just because they are all immigrants. its like me likening you to jimmy saville because you're both white, right wing brits.
I'm not linking those 2 to a rapist I'm linking the uninformed actions of the crowd on the plane to the uninformed actions of the crowd in Glasgow.
You're becoming the right little keyboard warrior with all your little insults , trumpian, saville, right wing. I wont take being called white as an insult because I am.
But hey dont let what I actually said stand in the way of you making a political point.

I don't have a problem with immigration, just uncontrolled immigration. You should know who you're letting into your country . We're an overcrowded island as it is and you cant just keep building houses for the worlds refugees or we'll end up with fields full of houses and fuck all to eat.
Unless they're being persecuted or have the work skills this country needs then it should be harder for people to come here..

That's a reasonable position. I might not agree 100%, but I get it.

I think that is quite different to supporting what's going on at the Home Office just now though. I also think the whole "some of them are rapists", "a lot of them are from France" angle is destined to get peoples back up because the individual merit of an immigrant isn't really the issue here, it's more about how our government are treating people based on a single issue.

Firstly this country needs immigration otherwise we will end up with a population of the elderly being looked after by the old. Also your point about being overcrowded is a joke. Have you never taken a train from Edinburgh to London or Glasgow to Bristol?
.Large field large field, large field large field, 'oh there goes a village' . Large field, large field large field, lake, city, large field large field. And so on and on it goes for 400 miles. What's in the fields? Sheep a deal of the time or rapeseed. Wool prices are at an all time low, nobody is picking the strawberries and yes I guess we need our chips fried. No wonder there are so many programmes about the countryside, we're a nation of sheep shaggers and call centre workers. No amount of bullshit from George Galloway will get over the fact we told Priti Patel the fascist to fuck off.

Sorry Moaty. I admit I wandered off a bit mid your rant there.
But on your last point: Priti Patel.

Would you?

I guess you (Moaty) wouldn’t, but (less fussy) fellow Bouncers……

Priti worth one or pretty much a munter?
