US Visa

Yep, really simple. Got one in about 10 minutes online from the official site Psychocandy mentions above. Very easy. Think it was about 15 or something.

Your travel authorization is under review because an immediate determination could not be made.

That's what I got.

Did you say you like b0mbs?

If you don't have a criminal record or anything then there won't be a problem.

Did you not used to just need to fill out the form on the plane?

Yeah but its the on line form now.

For those who haven't been to the States for a while you'll be in for a huge surprise at the Border Agency bit.

They've taken all the grumpy, soor faced bastards away and replaced them with friendly types who actually smile and have a bit of chat!

You just fill out a customs form, 1 per family.

Don't hang about when getting off plane, queues are big ! Expect a long wait.

If you go via Dublin you do your immigration and customs before you go (for most US flights). You still queue, but you'd just be hanging about anyway. As someone who after two hours wait in Washington found himself stuck behind a tour party who spoke no English - it's well worth it!

I got that exact surprise in Feb. The guy was really nice!

And so were all the Yanks, but I knew that already.

I was hassled more than I thought I would be on the streets of New York and was let down by the hotel, who seemed to be former Home Security folk. I'll be back though, its a wonderful town!

From Tripadvisor :giggle:

Its a sin that a hotel with the New Yorker name
should let New York down so badly.

The reception staff were curt and surly but even they
were outdone by the bar and waiting staff in the
Coopers, some enjoying wine by the paper coffee
cupful! I cant imagine what it would be like trying to
get served when it was busy it was almost
impossible to get served when it was quiet. When I
asked for a menu it landed on the table with the grace
of a shot up, crippled bomber landing on the deck of
an aircraft carrier! The carpet in my room was sticky to
walk on yuk!! The only positive note were the guys
tending to the lifts who were very pleasant and chatty.

The New Yorker seems to be one of the more popular ones as well and was on my list. Glad we didnt stay there now.
How did you get to Cabo. I've always fancied it but never seen it in any travel brochures etc?

Where exactly did you go. It looked like you were everywhere.

Hey L

I wasnt going to say as my wife is already getting fed up, almost stopping randoms in the street saying how fantastic it was!

As you know we started off in New York but as you and J didnt arrive until the day after we left the chance of a far flung Bounce Tour was lost. We thought NY was fantastic, hadnt been before and should have had more time than we did.

Our first stop was Miami. Looks nice with all the art deco stuff but apart from that and the beach, unimpressed.

Next stop was Cartagena, Columbia. Here we went to a mud volcano. It was fun and Columbia was not quite what I expected - no running gun battles in the streets - but I'm not sure what I expected.

Up at 5.30 am next day for the Panama Canal transit. The whole thing was fucking awesome.

Seamen and aircrew still need visas unfortunately. Last time I went on business flying through Miami to get to Dominican Republic I was arrested at immigration and detained by the ugliest most ignorant bunch of hillbilly muppets I have ever met. My visa (C1 I believe) had an F instead of an M under sex. As I said to the guy when he eventually deigned to tell me the problem, if I look like a female they must be used to some goddamn ugly broads. Never had a problem with the ESTA though.
