With the SPL being a tight league and 2nd, 3rd and 4th still up for grabs to most, whats the thoughts on how the oposition look for the end of the season.

Some of below may be wrong, will be a listing somewhere with all ins and outs.

Inverness - sure they signed a few youngsters from decent clubs so remains to be seen. Didn't lose any of their better players either??

Motherwell - don't recall any signings and unfortunately only lost Murphy from memory.

St Johnstone - putting them in there next as they have signed a few youngsters from top clubs also so could be in with a shout. They knocked back our bid from Craig. He could have been the difference between Hibs finishing above St J this season which is 80-90k per league placing so fair play to them knocking back Rod's (derisory?) offer.

Saviles - Their joke punishment allowed them to fudge some paperwork and get a few good youngsters in. Lost Macgowan only. LC Final will allow them to see out the season so no rush to sell or shed wages now.

United - kept everyone. Signed naebdy??

Aberdeen - lost Fraser, kept others with nobody of note joining.

We seem to have done OK in comparison although our need to sign a few players was greater based on the last two performances.......

Pretty sure they will see out the season yes, but once again they are flirting with debt. The final may not raise as much money as they hope but even if it does it will only be about half a million. So far they have only trimmed a small amount from their wage bill and still have about 140 employees. If Zalulukos (however ya spell it) goes then that will save a little more but also might hit performances on the park. They desperately need to finish in the top 6 I would imagine as they need that extra derby because many of their own fans use season tickets so no extra revenue. But their wage bill was reported to be somewhere around 300k a month wasn't it? Add to that the taxes, police/council/training ground/stadium upkeep etc then they have the 1.5m tax bill from March, and also 55k to pay Scott and Co. I also reckon there will be further bills come to light. Yes they will see their way to the summer, but the loan players may have to return, most players of any value will be out of contract and hopefully providing no other zillionaire walks in the door, they will have a far reduced and inferior sqaud next year.....Though no doubt they will probably get Messi on loan knowing their jamminess

so overall, squads are about the same.

Apparently, Peter Odemwingie has been spotted in the QPR shop buying himself the full home kit. He was heard to ask how much it would cost to get his name printed on the jersey?

Think Broon went for the gullet in the summer with Hayes & McGinn but, theres no denying it, he's done an incredible bit of business (esp in this day & age) getting Reynolds signed up on a 4.5yr contract.

As for the rest, virtually nothing of note to say although that could well change when some of these loan kids get a run-out. By and large, though, I think we've done the most out of all the clubs, Smeltic included.

Which is why I can't understand some of the wailing on here about "we should have done this" and "we should have done that".

Neither can I....

January is a notoriously difficult month to get players in as clubs don't want their better players leaving mid season, also the game is practically skint in Scotland and Hibs have lost a lot of money in recent years so finances are bound to be tight. Despite all that we have retained our three loanees who have been three of our best players this season, signed a good SPL midfielder in Scott Roberston on a permanent deal, added a wide player Fenlon clearly rates, and got another experienced attacking midfielder on a pre-contract. I would have liked a striker in for the run in to the season because I think we are threadbare there if either Griffiths or Doyle are out for any time, but the money was not there.
