Only 13 left if ya fancy yin?

Can ya still buy the above on US Amazon or is it just the Confederate flag that's banned?

Further to beefys point there are also pages full of communist flags available from the worlds predominant capitalsit emporium. In other words they've got their priorities rather askew. I'm sure you can also buy all manner of nasty books. All very tokenistic then.

As for banning the confederate flag generally, I'm not sure its wise, practical or non fascistic. I don't pretend to any great knowledge but it seems to me that as per the OP its use is wider than racism whatever it's origins. Even if it wasn't I wouldn't ban it, or the flags of German and Russian socialism. You can't make it illegal to be stupid or nasty.

At last, we come to the real reason why you're always on the other side of the argument. To everyone.

Took 11 years of bouncery for me to come to this conclusion.

Regret looking cos I'm now probably on some NSA watchlist but no I couldn't find either.

I'm not in favour of banning things such as flags, books, films or even deep fried mars bars or strong alcohol. I think people need to work out why something might not be suitable behaviour. If you go around banning things it usually makes them more appealing to many folk.

I don't think Federal or State governments need to ban confederate flags either - they (the people flying a confederate flag) should have a think about why they are choosing to fly the flag and then if it seems the right thing to do then keep flying it or take it down.

People in general need to think more about what they do in life rather than wait for someone to make a law that tells them what the 'right' thing to do is. If you wait to be told that's when the likes of the Nazis get to tell you its your job to beat up your innocent neighbours. (i get to use the Nazi example cos it actually is relevant in this case!).

That was my point, I meant that I [jokingly] want to make being a fuckwit illegal. They keep spoiling everything.

i wouldn't ban it but is there not a separate arguement about whether it should be flown over government buildings? imagine modern Bavaria for example celebrated its unique culture by flying the swastika from every public building? The people of South Carolina should decide but if I were them and had a vote it'd be to take down the apartheid flag.

That's a fair distinction. I don't think to compares to the swastika, however I do think the people of the state should vote on it.

A cable TV station has stopped showing The Dukes of Hazzard. Warner Bros Studios, who appear to own the merchandising rights for the show have also stopped licensing for the toy car, The General Lee which has the flag painted on the roof. This may be good news for me as I actually have model General Lee, still in the box. Hopefully it will become a much sought after collectable.

All a bit OTT. After all, ask the native Americans how they feel about the Stars and Stripes.

I continue to think gun ainms suggestion is the way forward - withdrawal from state use. I'm even tempted to be more left wing than he and consider that this might not even be based on public opinion - revising my initial support for that suggestion on the basis that it's inevitably going to depend on racial demographics in any vote. Which isn't to suggest blacks and whites will go in uniform directions or for uniform morives;
There is however bound to be a skew.

I used to be fond of the confederate flag in the primal scream / dukes of hazard / thumbing Noses to the man kind of way. But like so many inclinations of that kind it's actually a bit shallow. It is only after the shooting that I have read about the origins of the flag and how directly aligned with racism it was.
I accept that is no longer the case for many probably most people who sport it, which is why interference with private use would be wrong (well it would be wrong in that context even if people did have racist intent). I do think the organs of the state who represent all citizens should think again however.
