Could be any country or city that lends itself to over tolerance

“The modern world is not evil; in some ways the modern world is far too good. It is full of wild and wasted virtues. When a religious scheme is shattered (as Christianity was shattered at the Reformation), it is not merely the vices that are let loose. The vices are, indeed, let loose, and they wander and do damage. But the virtues are let loose also; and the virtues wander more wildly, and the virtues do more terrible damage. The modern world is full of the old Christian virtues gone mad. The virtues have gone mad because they have been isolated from each other and are wandering alone. Thus some scientists care for truth; and their truth is pitiless. Thus some humanitarians only care for pity; and their pity (I am sorry to say) is often untruthful.”

GK Chesterton

Tbf a fair chunk of scientists have gone mental too these days

I’ve had to stop watching that for now for the sake of my blood pressure lol

Some further thoughts:

- I don’t know how the legal drugs argument has survived the opiate crisis where a pure and legal alternative to heroin has ravaged demographics that illegal drugs didn’t previously get near

- The state of Vancouver undermines excuses typically given about American cities, notably SF where some blinkered zealots still manage to blame care in the community type policies by Reagan in the feckin 60s / early 70s. Mind you other moon units argue it’s because drugs aren’t legal everywhere - the appalling doubling down that is common to the progressive religion which cannot contemplate itself ever being wrong. A particularly dangerous pathology as it is in fact almost always wrong.

- homelessness in Canada is rising hugely due to Trudeau’s efforts to import a new population and the effect that has on housing costs. When I was in Canada, I befriended some locals and found working class people could still live in houses that in Edinburgh they would get nowhere near. This was true in anything but swish areas. I got taken to a mafia hangout by a guy who grew up with them all - it really was like the club out the sopranos - which I was a bit nervous about but was assured it was totally safe due to my friends relationships and them not really bothering normal folk. And so it was, but it was neighbourhoods like this that I refer to ; roomy homes, nice clean and safe. Trudeau has changed all that in respect of housing.

- defund the police raising its head again. I mean these wealthy liberals in their gated communities or plush suburbs must genuinely be insane. Either that or they are intent on collapsing functioning society to cement and increase their power. I have to work hard sometimes to persuade myself it’s the former, but I think for many it probably does come from the fact they belong to the silliest mindset in history. There is little doubt though that they are easily manipulated by far more cynical characters on the hard left.

- progressivism / liberalism of the contemporary kind (historical liberals would be first to eviscerate it) destroys everything that it touches and may ultimately destroy free societies, either directly or by creating opposing despots.

This stuff is so often wrong because its foundations and principles are objectively untrue.

Concepts such as blank state theory of humanity and the perfectability of man are objectively false (and falsified by science).

Concepts like equality have not travelled well from their Christian point of origin where it is subtly but nevertheless profoundly and crucially different. Again it has become something manifestly false which requires rampant destruction to try to obliterate the unequal outcomes which arise from that.

I mean there is a list as long as your arm, but these mistakes are right at the core, and in the foundational axioms of the faith. Necessarily everything that proceeds from such misunderstandings of reality is going to get more and more convoluted and destructive as it tries to counter each new encroachment of reality.
