It seems both the Tories and Labour would be looking at scrapping Trident after the next UK GE.

I think if 9/11 told us anything, it's in this interconnected 24hr TV internet age, one nuclear detonation anywhere on the planet (much more so if it's in a city) would cause sociatal collapse. The abilty to cause such incredible destruction from such a small, easily hidden lump of metal would have the whole planet metaphorically pulling up the drawbridges.
Hence, In my opinion, just having a nuke is deterrent enough. Just one. (see N Korea for details). Nobody is going to dare invade or attack you.
If/when Scotland was to re-establish itself as a state, I would keep maybe a dozen warheads back , and secret them somewhere (easily done, the things are about the size of a 15kg butane gas canister!). That should do the trick.
