While I didn't understand all the economic stuff, I found this account of the northern rock pre-crash crash interesting. Whether Melvyn kings intransigence or even Robert pestons hyperbole were as instrumental as suggested I don't know.

However, unless the author is fibbing, the bald fact of the eye watering profits the government made on rolling up northern rock (and Bradford and bingley) is an interesting 'other side' to the various bailout adventures of recent years.
