Ok lets try and not be biased here.Lets look at it objectively.I was 4,I wasn't really that aware of what was going on,but I have seen it over the years. Ok, Geoff Hurst's first goal is legit,Peter's goal is legit.That makes it 2-2?Goal no.3,was it over the line?VAR would say today. Goal 4 should be disallowed because of a pitch invasion.So 2-2 and extra time ensues.

I've never actually seen the whole game, only the goals (and lap of honour ?).

I don't think penalties were widely used to settle drawn matches then, so I looked up what would have happened - apparently there would have been a replay the following Tuesday, and if the replay ended in a draw then the winners would have been decided by a lottery.

Same applied in many cup games back then. First game, then a replay, then another replay, then toss a coin.
In Scotland the referees decided the winners.
Usually via an offside goal or penalty to the you know who two.

Dont really care to be honest anymore. Guess I'm just getting old. But we all..or most of us...celebrated Maradonas "hand of god" so not much point crying over this spilt milk They won it even if ref made a mistake as refs have done for years. No doubt some of the players were even decent blokes.
