Strikes,Facts Figures Updates

You do make me laugh. I'm glad I didn't put you on ignore when you invited me to. HibbyBilly was a much more worthy recipient of that honour.
I'm glad you didn't either as I think you are great poster even if your postcards from paradise are sometimes hard to take on a Scottish morning.

But that doesn't mean we are always gonna agree!

Just read this. Poor fuckers. Mostly youngsters. And this is why we need to get folk unionised.

And they have been told they do not qualify for the government redundancy scheme....

I thought labour were gonnae dae away with zero hours contracts

These places are appropriate zero hours contracts imo. My kids work for firms like this when on hols from uni. You sign up for shifts as it suits you, catering events etc. it’s ideal for kids at this stage, and that’s pretty much the entire workforce. Wanna do Wednesday one week but not the next cos Hibs are playing or you need to do some revision, just sign up for the days you want.

Zero hours goes wrong when it’s a con to avoid full time employment. This kind of thing is different. It’s Shan this firm has gone bust and left folk out of pocket, but that’s a different issue imo

One of the laddies has lost £800. A few days before crimbo.
How much have the bosses spirited away?

They are fuckin rats and I hope they get the life they deserve.

Not true.Zero hours contracts were never a thing 30 years ago.
There has always been casual and seasonal work and there is nothing wrong with it. Zero hours contracts become an utter con when the likes of McDonald’s are using them to avoid salaried employment.

Catering agencies giving ad hoc work to students depending what weddings, conferences etc may need staffed…or may not…and with a workforce of students who may or may not want to work on a given day… how would you do it Findlay?

This geezer is meant to be taking over as top boy when Mick Lynch retires.

"Eddie Dempsey, a self-proclaimed ‘socialist’, is expected to run for leader of the militant rail union after current boss Mick Lynch announced his retirement yesterday."

They used to have him on GBnews* quite a lot he is a very good speaker.

*I've seen many good left wing speakers on there. More than I ever see on sky or the bbc.

GBNews is biased in its editorial line, like the BBC, C4 et al. But it is by far and away the most balanced in terms of diverse opinions, left to right, being represented in discussions. It’s not even close.

Oh aye the bias is there to easily see. But they have a better selection of guests than most.

They are all biased fuckers though.

huge eye opener for me that post. I saw a few wee clips when it first aired and i think everytime that goat reese-mogg was salvering back to me, and ive obviously taken in other reports that it was a right wing goose steppingfest that i ive just abandoned it as the bbc on speed. Think jimmy mentioned the other day that actually, that he seen loads of left wing guests, more than hed seen on the traditional channels.

Is that mogg on it all the time? I just want to punch him in the puss and sack his nanny.

Na the mogster has had his hours cut. But a regular guest is corbyns speech writer, that Russel Lloyd thingy the 'firebrand' mp from Brighton.

Big G's RCP gets a bit airtime.

Seen some good auld arguments on it like.

I don’t think so. I mostly see it at lunch time tbf when the missus watches it, and he’s not on then.

Just to re-emphasise, the editorial line, ie what is covered and the angle the hosts take is completely biased; channel 4 news stuff. But as Jimmy notes their panels are always a good mix and some of the left wing guests - Aaron Bastani from Novara media for example - are very good at holding their own.

I have seen the Rees Mogg show and he’s not a good host. Too stilted and just not as good as the people whose day-jobs it is, including in chairing it so everyone has their say. Former labour MP Gloria Del Piero is another host and she’s similarly awkward - though not as bad as Moggers and has got better over time.

It’s also full of non white faces for a purported goose stepping fest.

Water workers mainly from the GMB and Unison Unions are going on strike between the 2nd and 8th of June across Scotland. They are striking for fair pay.Get down to your local picket line and show them your support.

51% of Unison workers employed by the water supplier voted to reject the pay offer, and 49% voted to accept. The turnout was 86%.

GMB said 60% of its members voted against the offer, and 40% chose to accept, on a turnout of 78%.

Unite haven't disclosed their membership voting.

With management having made an offer above inflation and the voting numbers above you'd feel surprised if many actually strike to forego their pay.

The BMA have not half turned into some nasty lot. We have a horrendous spike in flu and there they are threatening strike action ahead of Christmas. Last year they were given a huge increase. Hopefully they see sense and backdown this weekend. Rightly they've lost public support.

Agreed - the Hippocratic Oath, I imagine, isn’t referenced these days (service and compassion).

French workers have called a National Strike for the 5th of November.Meanwhile there are three strike movements going on in Edinburgh at the moment with the UCU striking at the Edinburgh Uni, Rockstar the makers of Grand Theft Auto are continuing their action against cuts and there was a protest at Edinburgh Art College over cuts yesterday.I'll not be able to take part in the National Strike in France as Gav Mckercher, Newhoose and I will be in Albania,so might see some of the Flamingo Revolution. So looking forward to an Europen Spring in October.

Dutch regional bus drivers working for public transport concession companies went on strike last Wednesday and threatened to strike for one day each week until Christmas with 48 hrs notice if pay and conditions demands were not met.

Public opinion was with them in tv polls and they were going to strike today as well but talks with the employers have resumed and the strike was called off. For now anyway....

Well things for a leftie like me have been pretty quiet for about a year and Your Party turned out to be a damp squib,so I'm glad things have kicked off again.

I suppose without the left and unions etc I expect anyone who doesn't agree to hand back pensions, paid time off, 5 day weeks, any kind of health and safety at work, employment tribunals, basic dignity, the NHS, the concept of universal healthcare, unemployment benefits (I presume many here have had to claim something at some time).......

You know a lot of the stuff you take utterly for granted to make working not an absolutely horrendous time.

I'd 100% agree if this was 1976 but the world is completely different today. The idea that strikes will preserve jobs in industry dying is for the birds.

Lots of employers would love to go back to the days of no rights or benefits. I know two who, in the last couple of years, tried to deny the legal right of average holiday pay for their workers.
