Well February started very well on Sunday 2nd at the Holy Ground!
St. Pat's members will just about have got the smile off their faces, like all Hibs fans.
Anyway whilst history passes them by the Hibees will go marching on, as will St. Pat's.
The following will take place this month.......
The next St. Patrick's Branch will take place at the Hibs Club in two weeks time, Thursday 20th February @7.30. There was a great turnout last month where I had to inform our members that Alan Lugton who was going to honor us with a talk about his magnificent ' The Making of Hibernian' had that week undergone surgery. I will update all when I send out minutes the morn. We agreed at the January meeting that we should bring our meeting forward to February as there were lots of activities to warrant it.
I am delighted to tell you that Daniel Gray will be speaking about his acclaimed fitba' book 'Stramash'. Daniel who is a Middlesbrough fan born and bred and has lived in Sunny Leith for several years, fatigued by bloated big-game football and bored of samey big cities, Daniel went in search of small town Scotland and its teams. At a time when the Scottish club game is drifting towards its lowest ebb once more, Stramash singularly fails to wring its hands and address the state of the game, preferring instead to focus on Bobby Mann's waistline. Part travelogue, part history and part mistakenly spilling ketchup on the face of a small child, Stramash takes an uplifting look at the country's nether regions. Using the excuse of a match to visit places from Dumfries to Dingwall, Daniel surveys Scotland's towns and teams in their present state. I have read it and it is both informative and bloody funny at the same time. Come along and hear his tale.
Daniel also wrote the fabulous book 'Homage to Caledonia' about the young Scots who were part of the 2400 UK contingent in the International Brigade that volunteered to fight Fascism in Spain in the Civil War there 1936-39.
St. Patrick's Night tickets will be available. This event was sold out last year so make sure you get tickets at the Branch Meeting or from Branch Officials before and after the Raith Cup game, and the Ross County and Arabs games. The smashing Scots/Irish Perth based Mad Ferret Band and Disco have been booked. Tickets are 7 and the event takes place in the Hibs Club Saturday March 15th.
Three Committee members and four members picked out the hat at the last Branch meeting will meet next week and discuss the nominations we have received for the 'St. Patrick's Branch Hibernian Achievement Award' before sending out to you, the Branch members, to vote on who you think should receive the award to be presented at the St. Pat's night.
Branch membership renewals should be in this month. Just to clarify, new members that joined us last year whether in January, July or whatever have to renew now as the Supporters Association rules are that memberships run January to December. I am delighted to say that we have over 40 new members so far this year from near and far including the USA, Ireland, Belgium and the Netherlands. Make sure you renew to the Progressive Hibernian Supporters Branch.
We will be looking to provide transport to Cup games when we progress after Saturday with our partners and friends from the Hibees Bounce.
