St Johnstone

Struggled last season at times, could be a long season ahead for them.

Out of the League Cup after winning 1 game and losing 3 in their Group which contained only one Championship team and three 1st & 2nd Division teams. Makes our 1 goal deficit going into a home leg, look like a heavenly start.

As things stand they will be in the relegation dog fight. Time to recruit but need to get the finger out.

I'd forgotten that they'd punted Davidson. If this sort of form continues it won't be long until MacLean is relieved of his position

St Johnstone as a club , I don't particularly like. Bogey bastards, but what club isn't 🙂.
But like the rest.of all clubs outside the bigots, I have an admiration for the fans , because they follow THEIR club. Heeps of buses leave Perth every week to follow the glory hunters , hats off to them who dont.
Mcdiarmid park is a soulless place to go and watch football, I hate it . With a passion . But I rather go there than Ipox or darkheid.
And off the ball , as much as it has lost its appeal , is still better than most of the pish the BBC Scotland sport put out .

St Johnstone used to be my late mothers and fathers club due to them coming from that area and my old granny's house was right over the road from Muirton Park.
Before we moved here I have been up to Mcdiarmid a few times for a few gatherings and corporate always treated us well. Sad to see them hit hard times lots of good people and hard core fans there.

First game, home defeat from Hearts.
I think this season they will really appreciate just how good a manager Calum Davidson was for them.
Mental decision to sack him.
They have started to get players in.
3 permanents have come in this week in a bid to stop the flow of goals
Sam McClelland, 21 year old centre back from Chelsea U21's
Oludare Olufunwa, 22 year old centre back from Liverpool U21's
Matt Smith, 23 year old defensive mid from MK Dons

Keeper had a good game yesterday

Steve McLean sacked...

Poor recruitment due to owner trying to ease himself out without spending.
They now need an experienced and good manager to win points with a substandard squad.
I picked them to go down in August and they look a sure thing.

Coincidentally the only team our manager has managed to beat in his 6 games.

St Mirren 🤷‍♂️

And he only lost one to Rangers - and 2 months in the job
We will finished 3 rd

Nice way to dress up 11 points dropped out of 18.
Fortunately only St Mirren haven't made an erse of it outside the OF so a climb by Hibs to 4th or 5th will be achieved by the end of November.

Let me ask you. Are you happy we appointed NM? Would you have preferred someone else? Just curious

Yes, he is the right guy.
He will make steady progress.
McDermott will continue to take care of recruitment and NM will run a stict but happy ship.
He is safe until summer of 2025 and for the first time in a while he is more likely to be poached than sacked.

Best result to date was the St Mirren game. A great reaction from the team after Baccus scored.
Players are happy, no daft promises from NM and Tavares & Whittaker are two new players added to the first team.
No idea how close Whittaker was under Johnson but Tavares had been cast adrift with no way back so to have him starting and doing a disciplined defensive job yesterday was an achievement for the manager and the coaching team.
If he can go unbeaten in November we will be 4th and in a cup final before facing a tough run of fixtures in December.

This was my Saints mate's take at the start of the season:

"Very very worried. We’ve flirted with death the last 2 seasons, have an untested manager, a thin and ageing squad, no proven striker, an exasperated fan base, and we’re for sale.
What’s not to love?"

A club like St Johnstone with a small fanbase and run on a tight financial ship, always should have an experienced manager at the helm.
Davidson was their most successful manager ever but that wasn't enough to save him when a bad run of results happened.
They are in serious trouble this season with no proper money to strengthen and now no manager.
They should get Neilson in IMO...an experienced boss who knows the league and how to get results in it.

Martingdale to them seems a distinct possibility. Stuck a wedge on myself.

John Hughes must be in with a shout surely. His name usually gets banded about every time there's a vacancy
