How do people see this one going ?....here's my take
Aberdeen have sold 40,000 tickets for this match, basically the same as Hibs did in 2004. There is no surprise in this as they have had a great season and have a very good chance of winning their first trophy in 19 years. They have at long last started to realise their potential as one of the biggest clubs in Scotland outside of the Old Firm, Hibs are a very similar sized club but have yet to get even close to realising their potential on a consistent basis, maybe next season we will start to. Anyway, I digress..
I have heard many fans comparing this game to the Hibs v Livingston Final 10 years ago in that one club will take a massive support and the other won't, and this may be history repeating itself. I don't see the comparison at all. Aberdeen are a very solid, well-organised and above all experienced team who have been completely rejuvenated since Derek McKinnes arrived as manager. He has acknowledged that his predecessor Craig Brown done a lot of the groundwork before he arrived, but it's fair to say that McKinness, well backed financially though he has been by the Aberdeen board, has taken the club further on. Inverness have been punching above their weight in recent years under Terry Butcher, but they have suffered from what has afflicted Hibs this season, namely a change of manager mid-season who wants the team he has inherited to play the system he wants rather than sticking to the system the players are suited to. Inverness were hugely impressive when I saw them at ER earlier in the season, but they go into this match having conceded 10 goals in their last two games, and (disgracefully IMO) having to play a league match against Hibs four days before the Cup Final.
Unlike Hibs in 2004, Aberdeen will not be fielding practically an under 19's team. They will also not be playing a team who are better than they are as Hibs did in 2004. The Hibs youngsters that day froze in the weight of expectation that was foisted on them by a massive, hyped-up support. Livingston had the experienced players and tactical ability of their manager that day to overcome Hibs and play on their fears. I don't expect Aberdeen to falter in the same way on Sunday. Inverness can win this game (I hope they do) as they have beaten Aberdeen recently, I just think the Dons will have too much momentum, experience and tactical savvy to lose this one
