Respect

One of the all time greats and singing at a time when woman's lib meant more than glib 'Girl Power' phrase.Right at the forefront of the fight for civil rights and much more.She had the look that inspired Jackie Brown and much more.I remember being on the campaign trail for Respect the party in Leicester and driving round and round the streets with George Galloway and Salma Yaqoob and others with R.E.S.P.E.C.T. blaring out of the open top bus and it was so inspiring.
 
I Say a Little Prayer has huge significance for me. When I was 14 in 1968 my mother took off with a guy with my younger brother to go down south, without my knowledge, only a letter on the table when I got home from school, explaining why.
Aretha was at number 1 and kind of made sense at the time.
