Read this quote on another website today:

Religious beliefs and practices are followed by those who are scared to go to hell when they die. Spiritual beliefs and practices are used by those who have already lived in hell

Any truth in it?

I cant really determine the difference between religious and spiritual. Does one believe in a supreme being and mumbo jumbo, and the other just believes in mumbo jumbo?

Basically, yes I think so. But there are two other options. Deism is essentially a belief in the supreme being but without the mumbo jumbo. Atheism is non-belief and no mumbo-jumbo.

Poll might be interesting? Could add one if the OP thinks it is appropriate. :dunno:

Aye, lets go for a public vote Bartok Hi5

I think I might know where that comes from. Sounds familiar. Personally I think that sounds rather heroic and in my opinion it's bollocks if you don't mind me saying.

Pretty much sums it up for me.:rollfloor I don't really get the difference between religious and spiritual. I suppose people who say this are trying to get at the point that you can still believe in God (or whatever else they choose to call it), destiny, heaven, reincarnation, etc without following any specific organised religion or doctrine. But as I wrote off the existence of God, an afterlife etc. some time ago, I don't see what else is supposed to be out there in terms of "being spiritual".

One thing that's really got me stumped here... can anybody explain what the hell a "spiritual practice" is? Are we talking prayer or is there more to it than that?

I dont know if I entirely agree with that bit Personally I would prefer to believe in something tangible IE me but to some people believing in the big G [not you] is more than just looking for guidance. They probably feel they get a lot more than that IE comfort somehow, the joy of believing that christmas isnt really just a load of commercial p1sh etc etc.
