Documentary on the new BBC Scotland. Former Orc and Don nutter full back David Robertson is managing this team in war torn Kashmir. Getting paid peanuts. Bemoaning the fact nobody in Scotland will employ him. Not sure those chances improved after this programme. Worth a wee watch even if only for an insight into life in Kashmir...

Enjoyed it although Robertson is a radge, kids called Mason and Chelsea...I was in Kashmir in the mid 90s and it was an amazing time if a bit hairy.

He seems like a radge but fair play that he wants to be in the game regardless of money. Notice he turned down some good money in dubai to finish the project. They could win the league this season and next they are moving into 50000 stadium also lots of press about them and there plight and a big contract with adidas coming up and a link with dortmund.

Big uproar brewing in Indian football there is two leagues just now. The I league the original league with some teams 100 years old. I league has kashmir and the jewal in the Indian football crown the kolkata Derby between East bengal and mohun bagan with its 100000 crowds. The other league is the super league the new start with millions pumped in teams owned by bollywood/cricket stars big TV figures and lots of big names foreign players. Fifa with the back hander from the super league has said they have to merge. The proposal is the super league is the new top league with the two kolkata clubs added and I league becomes first division. The I league clubs are obviously fuming saying we have the history and some are a lot better than the lower super league clubs, money talks though it seems. As an aside man city have confirmed they are going to buy a Indian club this year as see it as future power house

Not sure I like the idea of rich clubs owning foreign "feeder" clubs, doesn't feel right somehow. I think Everton owned Home Farm FC in the nineties, not sure how much it goes on these days.

Which reminds me of a story I was told over 20 years ago by a Home Farm fan. Apparently Steve Archibald finished his career there. On his debut he was responsible for losing 2 goals and was told to fuck off by the manager, never playing again.

Well, he never was much good as a goalkeeper. What did they expect

Fishing through the working class kids of the world to get the gems and get them to play for the main city team. Like the old East India company reborn

For Indian (and other countries) it seems obvious they need strong domestic leagues with money so their home grown talent doesn’t all end up in English, Italian, French, and Spanish leagues the way African talent has. If they do that then they could become an international powerhouse. I get why they like to try and attract big name European players as that sells jerseys AND importantly for the money men gets TV interest on a global scale but it makes the league dull and lacking real team spirit (I say that as someone who has seen umpteen European megastars stroll through US MLS games).

I always felt Hibs had missed an opportunity tapping into local youth when I’d see Asian heritage kids playing at Pilrig Park but never see any in the Hibs ranks and very few even on the terraces cheering on the cabbage.
