Posting on the Bounce - a cautionary tale

All,

You might have seen today that EGB an I were involved in a spat (what a surprise). I was developing an argument and, as part of that, I asked EGB to name people who would fit into his description of the issue. I realised soon after that this was potentially quite dangerous for the Bounce and EGB.

Why? The Bounce is pretty knockabout. I get called all sorts, as do others. But we're all big boys and girls so I guess it's water off a ducks back.

But when it comes to naming people, public figures or otherwise, then care is needed. I don't really mean big political beasts or anything like that. But in naming someone more generally and ascribing possible malicious intent to them, there is the potential to expose the poster and the Bounce to libel.

I know public figures get slagged here all the time, but there is a difference between I hate whoever and claiming they have done something illegal or immoral. Even more so if it isn't a public figures.

And it's easy to get drawn into it, as we nearly did today. So keep it bouncing, but let's not get lifted!

Public service announcement over.

I was tempted to say you’re overthinking, but sadly I think you’re probably not. Voicing anti establishment sentiments is risky business these days. It’s why I’ve previously been unable to tell you, when you have asked, about egregious wokeism I know of personally. It would be exposing other people to harm.
