When a little food bag arrives through your door, do you think to yourself, oh I must recycle my food and I'll be helping the environment? Don't get me wrong, this planet is not in a healthy state and I think everyone needs to pull together, but then the people at the top want us to save our tea bag for the recycle bin, meanwhile promoting low cost flights, formula one events, red arrow events, nuclear facilities, cars for every VIP whilst asking you to take the bike. Ok some of these are popular such as the low cost flights :rodpetrie: But the point is, do the goverments really give a toss about climate change? or do they just make us think we are all doing our bit whilst they go on life as normal?

The following has a lecture at the UN over dumping dangerous toxins in the atmosphere. It is not for everyone as it is 17 mins long and Is banned would lose more minutes from his life :laff: but it certainly reinforced my belief that the goverments simply pay lip service to climate change and play up to agencies who take big money for their experiments and ideas which are generally harmful to the rest of us.

As for the claims of deliberate poisoning by the web site, I have no opinion on that and seems something else altogether

There is no point in is recycling - machines can do it far better at recycling centres. We're asked to do I to make us feel part of things or make us feel even more beholden to the nanny state.

Ps why oh why do we have to blame the 'people at the top'? Cheap flights etc are used by _us_

Posh environmentalist types a the guardian want to get rid of them, which would keep foreign travel to the likes of them. These things are or responsibility too and of we duck that we deserve to be lorded over

I believe that food recycling is for the good even if its just to keep those pesky urban gulls in check, denying them their natural food source of of the huge wheely bins!

I agree with you Davy that putting stuff in different bins is a bit of a waste of time, but do it anyway.

I see this stuff being different from the other stuff you mention, fuel burning stuff, basically punters like what we are have no influence whatsoever. Carbon taxes are just something else we're all forced to pay for under the counter.

Until the mega wasteful countries like Russia, India and more than the rest put together IIRC China take steps to curb the emissions, greenhouse gases, the rest of us are pissing against a hurricane.

And I don't believe mankind is the major influence on climate change. The planets climate has been changing since the beginning of time.

In 2010 there were new VOC regulations enforced which forced paint manufacturers to change the formulations in oil-based paints. As a result all white oil-based paints, gloss, satin etc.... goes yellow in no time. It's basically now crap. Try explaining that to my clients though . They are moving towards acrylics for everything - including exterior paints. So you can all expect to change your wooden windows, soffits & fascia, garage doors etc about once every 5-7 years because there's no way that water based paint will protect it for any length of time. Of course it'll be my fault though......

Cow farts are the biggest problem .

Can`t go into too much detail, but if you knew what I know about Edinburgh`s recycling, you would not waste your time.

Valtti - beloved of sash & case window owners all over Edinburgh. They'll stay white on the exterior as the constant UV light helps. Don't try and use it in your hall or bathroom though. Valtti are the same as everyone else too in that they are being forced towards acrylic. There are further VOC regulations due. Next you'll be telling me to use farrow & ball .

Pretty gullible if you think it's cos the council want to save the planet. Council only interested in saving . Your green bin will be reduced to a monthly collection in the next couple of years, nap.

I've got four wheelie bins. God forbid I dump a crisp wrapper in the wrong one. I get a wee ticket tied to the handle, it doesn't get lifted and then I spend the next fortnight scared to open it because of the flies and smell. Then, if I somehow bag it and take it up the dump they want to charge me 35 for a permit to dump because I take it in my van - which is a commercial vehicle so they assume that it's business waste!! To be fair though, once I explain where it's from they don't mind .
