Most people who regularly run know about Parkruns by now. But for those who maybe don't run much but have kids who want a bit of excercise, did you know Parkruns have junior sections now? From 3 to 14 year old there is 2k run..though you can also walk. Locations include Meadows, Inverleith, Pilrig park, Hailes quarry park, Livingston, Archerfield walled gardens as well as places in Fife and elsewhere. They are great to get kids into some physical activity without undue pressure on them. Some see it as a race, most see it as a time trial for self and others just a place to meet people and get a little excercise. As someone who has ran 150 parkruns I would encourage you to pass the word on to any interested parties

All junior runs are Sunday mornings at 9.30

Adult runs are Saturdays 9.30am you can also have kids run at these with an adult and some allow dogs and buggies.

Locations in Edinburgh are Cramond prom, (Edinburgh parkrun), Figgate Park (Portobello parkrun) Holyrood park and Oriam all within Edinburgh with many locations outside. The home page of each parkrun displays other parkruns in a radius up to around 20 miles.

All runs are free but best to check into parkrun.co.uk first and register so that you can have your name and time recorded.

Thanks for the info. Davy. Glad to hear that the park runs for adults arenae on a Sunday mate. If they were four able bodied persons would have had to carry me on a stretcher round the Park after my upbeat and then downbeat session on Saturday!

Done them off and on since 2010 mate, great way to start a weekend if you can be arsed! The Cramond one is brilliant for a good time as long as it's no too windy. Porty one is OK but it's like 2.5 laps so can get a bit crowded. Never done the Oriam one. Livi one is decent - a couple of laps starting near the Spaghettihad. Did the Kingsway one when I was down in Gloucester visiting my oldest daughter a couple of weeks ago. Times are not what they used to be but always feel better once I've done one.

Oriam is on its third course since starting. The original qas best but the back end was taken away as it got congested due to width of path through woods.

Cramond is fast yes but a bit boring. Vogrie is a nicer run through the woods. As you said Porty is very busy and a three lapper gets a bit repetitive. Holyrood is a struggle op the hill for a mile then relatively fast for a mile followed by a very fast downhill.

Cramond was my home run tull Oriam opened but since moved to Haddington I'm most often seen at Whitekirkhil which has a little killer hill but great views.

The phenomenon it has become has led some doctor surgeries to prescribe parkrun to some patients rather than weight loss or depression tablets.

I met the founder Paul Sunton-Hewitt at university of Stirling parkrun. He never advertises where he is going so was a bit of luck and a really nice guy he is even if I don't agree to his doing away with some of the stats.

Always forget about the Vogrie one, need to try that out, the kids love a trip there. Not done Cramond in years - last time I did it it was rammed, can’t imagine that’ll have improved. Probably have to arrive an hour early just to get a parking space so not really worth it.

They've started one in Bo'ness as of last Saturday morning. Mixed feelings for me. I walk my dog down the shore every day and fucking hate cyclists on mountain bikes dinging their bell expecting me to move out their way on the tarmac path ( John Muir Way) when there is grass alongside designed for mountain bikes!! Fucking arseholes. Why do they expect to have right of way?
Getting back to the Saturday morning park runners. I feel the same about them. Can't see the point of jogging. It fucks your knees and there is no need unless someone or some animal is chasing you. The runners will expect me to have my dog on a leash in case he wanders in their path. Well he has walked that path for 6 years every day off lead and will continue to do so ! Joggers jog on, mountain bike riders cycling and expecting to rule on tarmac pathways ,fuck off!

It's only an hour or so at 9:30 each Saturday. You still get dog walkers and the runners are generally very courteous, if they aren't the Parkrun wouldn't survive long. I don't think I've ever told anyone to get out the way while running, it's my responsibility to find a way around them. You get quite a few dog walkers participating in Parkrun actually, dugs in tow, they love it!

Bit of a stuck in your own world attitude. Parkruns are ran at same time every Saturday all over the country. Better most of the runners and walkers uee the park for that short time..usually under an hour, than half a dozen jogger every half hour annoying you.

Runners are generally polite to dog walkers and other park users. But you probably spend more than anyone on council tax and give half your wages to save the parklands/forests..no? Just another entitled person then expecting the world to revolve around you!

Weirdly I've never had a problem parking in the Cramond car park though it does tend to fill up. Quite a lot park up Silverknows. The start is always heaving but the race thins out quite quickly allowing for a fast run. Figgate Park is a different beast entirely as the paths are so narrow for the hundreds that turn up

Sod off :coffee1:

A Mosque led Parkrun has banned over 12 year old woman and girls from their run. Where's the outcry from liberals who want inclusiveness? Ah well they can still run elsewhere os their Fathers and husbands let them

Don’t think it’s an official Parkrun Davy - doubt they’d want the negative publicity

So GB news being a bit naughty? I did wonder if they have actually banned over 12 female or if they just discourage it from their own community. I didn't get far with the Parkrun friends facebook site as within an hour of mentioning it I was banned from the group without anyone bothering to reply as to whether it was an official parkrun...another inclusive group then!

Thats what ai said, but I looked again at video of the "parkrun" Everyone was wearing a number on their shirt which would not happen in parkruns, so it was a charity run arranged by Muslims

Daily Mail article didn't mention Parkrun at all in their article, from what I could tell from that article it is a charity run done by the Mosque.

Think the confusion stems from it being a "park run" as opposed to it being ran by the Parkrun organisation :giggle
