One of a few - most notably simple minds - 80s bands, that went from extreme avant garde, to crossover genius, to profound shite, in a hop skip and a jump.

Unlike most, they've never had a revival - even the minds, despite their crimes, are copied by every second indie sort of the moment these days - so let's start it now.

A couple of faces of my own;

I've always found this on one hand twee, but also genuinely touching;

Before the commercial phase;

The obligatory ace album track;

Sash did a cracking remix of Enola gay in 98, but my favourite track of theirs was always if you leave which I'm sure you'd consider some of their most dreadful work. Hated Joan of arc and maid of Orleans with a passion.

Electricity was memorable, but that sailing the seven seas should have seen Andy mccluskey banned from using the mod name for ever more.

I've got it in my head that Paul humphreys partner these days is claudia brucken, the golden voiced lead singer of propaganda.

And the OMD trivia challenge for anyone to try (including bobby the man who knows all) is .... What is the connection between OMD and Hibs? Not made up, there is one, which people who bought a certain Hibs songs CD a few years ago may know.

OMD were very good but Dazzle Ships was fucking brilliant

I love "If You Leave". Its on my Ipod. :smug:

Girl i work with was married to the lead singer!!, still married to him apparently not divorced yet!

Andy Mcluskys mum was my music teacher at school.

EDIT : Actually I think this is bullshit, think I'm getting him mixed up with someone else. Music teacher in my school deffo had a son in an 80s band though.

What school did you go to...?

Not Trinity by any chance?

In which case you have the right band, just the wrong member(s).
