Nvidia now worth 4 trillion

Which is bigger than the UK's gdp, and indeed all but five of the world's countries. To think that before AI and bitcoin they were a humble producer of graphics cards.

The stock price is up more than 1,400% in three years or so. Remarkable.

AI will be the downfall of Humanity.

Import all these people to do the remedial jobs...that in 5 years AI will be doing!

I can really see a catacalosmic event happening soon.

These people controlling the strings are not stupid!

they are not the brightest...but they are organised.

Data centres and offices are supposed to be 100% renewable by the end of this year.
Where are you getting this from Hammi? All offices and data centres ain't going to be on renewables by the end of the year, that's for sure! In the UK they mostly/ all run off the grid so it will depend on the regular electricity supply being renewable.

The mega data centres of the likes of amazon and Microsoft might do something different, but i doubt RBS, the NHS et al.

Data centres are probably the biggest carbon emitting category in the world by now as they were headed that way more than a decade ago. If you add in offices to, well...

Tbf to the big boys they do do innovative things: Microsoft had undersea data centres, and ones open to the elements where wind did the cooling. The former has been abandoned, dunno about the latter. There is even talk about putting them in space!

What really bugs me is in the case of AI and especially crypto currency, so much of it is just waste. Crypto currency mining is hugely energy intensive just to produce a number that is meaningless other than the value given to it by the crypto lark.

One of my pals lives in Houston, he was over last week for some kind of pitch to Middle East money men. His idea is to capture the flare 🔥 from wells and run crypto mining from it. Carbon neutral, reduces emissions and creates free goth money.

Its a damn disgrace nothing was done to stop flaring years ago.

Thought we were talking about Nvidia?

To manage the GHG emissions footprint of our data centers, labs, and offices, we strategically
focus on locating new sites, selecting facilities to expand, managing our operations efficiently,
and sourcing renewable energy. Our current goal to source all global electricity use for offices
and data centers under operational control from renewable energy is expected to result in zero
scope 2 market-based emissions by the end of our fiscal year ending January 26, 2025.

Ah sorry, I misunderstood you. The problem is less Nvidia's data centres than Nvidia'a chips running in everybody else's !

Nvidia don't host in their data centres the crypto farms etc that use their chips - or not the overwhelming majority anyway.

Nvidia has now reached 5 trillion meaning its value is now on a par with the German economy

This scares the bejeezus out of me. The US stock market in which so many people rely on for retirement is heavily skewed by a handful of tech companies. When this goes tits up it is going to cause havoc on people's retirement incomes.

Yup. And tits up it is going to go.

Up it will continue to go for Nvidia for the foreseeable future, AI and crypto's GPU needs will only increase. Also the average person doesn't even know what quantum computing is yet, of which they'll be at the forefront

Aye it truly is scary. I'm reading things daily that are truly mind-boggling. There's chat now about what anyone can do to try and halt this runaway train so it only does some of the destruction it's on course to do.

The AI features that companies are now forcing you to use? Switch them off. Don't click on AI search results. Obviously don't use the tools themselves.

Feels miniscule in the grand scheme but the only thing these companies will take notice of is diminishing returns.

95% of AI projects are failing to turn a profit. There is a massive market correction coming.

Burry is betting large against Palantir $912m but much less so against Nvidia. I think everyone agrees that companies like Nvidia and Palantir shares are hugely over valued. There will be a correction soon but is it going to be a catastrophic meltdown like 2008? Hard to say but I am nervous!
