I'm in the market for a new phone.

Does anyone have a Nokia lumia 1020?

If so what's the camera like or can anyone recommend a decent camera phone?
 
Not got it but a mate has and the pics are stunning.

Be wary of the reviews from geeks online about phone cameras. These fannies are spending hours mucking about with filters to make every shot amazing. You want one that you can just pick up and snap in most light conditions. Nokia definitely streets ahead.

Not got yin myself, but the Sony Expiria is meant to have a good camera. Theres also the new Samsung Galaxy camera phone.

Thanks for that. Should have mentioned I'd be buying sim free, so the brand spanking new phones are a wee bit outta my price range.

Even with some contracts they're still asking for a few hundred up front.

Couldn't believe it when I went to upgrade my phone. Would have to more than double my monthly payments and pay 70 for the phone I wanted. Funk that.

Now putting new phone on credit card (18 months interest free) and going pay as you go!

I've got the Z1 Sony. The camera is decent enough but I'm not snap happy.

Thanks Dub, a guy in work has that, was really impressed with the camera but his screen (according to him) cracked on its own. Lay it down, picked it up and it was cracked... :hmmm

Kinda put me off.

You get a plastic [film] screen cover for the phone which you can use to keep the screen good although I havent used mine. I've had mine for about six months and it hasnt cracked despite me being a bit heavy handed sometimes. I reckon your guy at work was just unlucky or he sat on it.
 
My Nokia 1020 has just arrived and it is funken awesome. Camera is amazing. Highly recommend.

I'm loving it so far Tatie. Camera is superb. I'll post some pics later on. Is the 800 a windows phone?

I had an 800 and to be honest I couldnt wait to get shot of it and get something decent.

You'll be absolutely fine with the 1020 then Tatie.

The only issue would be if you were moving from android or apple. Windows phones can take a wee bit getting used to if you're new to them.
 
The Nokia 930 is a much better phone with a superior inbuilt processor. Look up the comparison reiews on Google between 930 and 1020. The Nokia 1020 is a glorified camera phone which is set to be discontinued as it has bombed. Not sure they have officially announced that yet. I know someone who works on the inside you could say :kos:. Food for thought before anyone buys a Nokia.

That explains why I was able to pick up a 1020 for 280 then.

For the price I think it's brilliant. No doubt the 930 is far superior but that's way out my price range.

The 1020 is being discontinued because it's coming to end of its life cycle. Its like saying the iPhone 4s has bombed because they have stopped making them.

I've never used it but I'm sure it's decent depending obviously on what features you're after. Depends if you buy outright or pay monthly I guess.

The 1020 is being discontinued because of poor sales and problems with some of the handsets. I know someone who has quite an important job role with Microsoft (they own Nokia) who informed me. The production of the phone is set to cease completely. Normally this isn't the case regardless of whether a new model comes out. The 1020 is not even a year old yet.
