Out today, the rateable value of my property has gone from 7900.00 last year to 10,100.00 this year. The bands giving relief to small business' has also changed.Last year I qualified for 100% relief, this year only 50%.

When the value of everything from holidays to houses to the looks to be dropping, Edinburgh Council decide rates are to increase. So not only do they make trading in places like Leith harder than ever, any small incentive given is removed when their plans and budgets are royally screwed.

They have reduced the rate in the from 45.8p to 40.7p, but it still means to people like me over 2000.00 a year more.

Cheers EDC, sometimes I wonder why I bother.

The rates system is an absolute shambles- arbritary and punitive and decided on by halfwits who wouldn't have the first clue about running a business, generating income, creating jobs (other than useless quango/public sector disservices/general pencil pushing) or general 'living in the real world'.

I dunno what you're complaining about Southfield- your business has obviously leaped in value by over 25% in the last year. You should be delighted.

Pay 'the corporation' and damn their insolence. Fecking bandit bastards.

Look on the bright side, at least when the govt syphon of a large chunk of the rates, it works its way to the weege to help the non tax payers out, how nice of them. Edinburgh is skint but we still have to bail out the manky job fearing weegies, while they get more money per head than anywhere else in scotland. The hospital fiasco a prime example. The politicians are even ridiculously biased to the weege. As a capital city we get treated 2nd rate by the manky weegie politicians, sturgeon a prime example, an arrogant bint I wouldnt tire of slapping and then I would simply change hands when I tired.

You always get what you vote for !

Old saying when labour is in money is out, it is still true.

Thats the scheme I used to qualify for but the goalposts have been moved!A wee bit of spin in there tbh, but considering whats coming up next month not entirely surprising.

The good news is after consulting The Bounce's very own Graeme Obree :worthy (watched The Flying Scotsman last night, what a great film) and a visit from someone from the assesors office and a re-measuring of my shop, I'm now back under the threshold and not liable to pay rates.

The Bounce really is feckin terrific, better than moneysupermarket. In the last week I've had help with rates,TV's & insurance.
