Murrell pleads guilty

Correction on the Tory rag. The Express is shamelessly promoting Reform and the frog faced wanker now
I look at the front pages on the BBC website, UK and Scotland, and the express and fail never cease to make me laugh. Sometimes out loud.

Some folk take them seriously 😆

Some of the coverage is verging on silly. I'm certain Swinney will step down, but it will be more to do with age and personal circumstances. I think he will see his job as to ride this out with as little long term damage as possible then hand over. I'm less sure it will be Flynn. He represents a more old school vision of the SNP. Mairi McAllan is cut from Nicola cloth. So it will be interesting to see where the party goes. But they've got five years to sort it out.
You don't say. Genuine non-satirical headline from the S*n yesterday:

ASDA RECALL

I saw Nicola Sturgeon at Asda buying frozen pizza & garlic bread just minutes from where flashy campervan was parked

Yes. But I'm afraid once you are caught in a rolling story it's difficult to stop. And Nicola hasn't exactly helped herself with some of her statements.

I do exactly the same. It’s the closest I ever get to a newspaper.

Managed to walk about with her eyes shut for 10 years and never seen Alex Salmonds sleazy behaviour, tops that by walking about with her eyes shut for 20 years and missed her husbands pilfering.

Not exactly plausible deniability is it

Interesting that again today Sturgeon has asserted Salmond appointed him when the dates seem to suggest it was Swinney
It was Swinney who appointed Murrell as CEO...about 25 years ago.

Maybe I am missing something here and I am absolutely no expert on finances.
I'm assuming the SNP's books were audited regularly by independent auditors ?
These people are paid a lot of money to find these sort of financial misdemeanars are they not ?
What the hell happened here ?

The 'wife' in all of this really is one, at best, total chancer who plays the innocent I'm a victim of misogyny "Why am I responsible for his crimes?". She's claiming to be having the worst week of her life as the "public turmoil is so awful" as she moves onto the next stage of her well paid book signing events... When in fact she's being held to account for her deliberate frustration, as leader, of the legitimate scrutiny, which would have much earlier revealed these crimes. And had it done so millions of pounds of public funds (needed for other priorities) could have been saved in this huge police operation.

Anyone who dared within the SNP to scrutinise the party's finances was demonised and shut down. The entire episode stinks from top to bottom and has shown Scotland to be a banana republic in consequence. Our entire legal and judicial system is in disrepute and we need the crown and police to have a full investigation into everything in the party's leadership from 2014 where it looks increasingly likely, that there's been a conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.

Aye spend even more money, not like you!

NS was investigated by the police and had no case to answer. I'm sure that during the investigation the police were also looking to see if anyone else should be held accountable, again nothing found, no-one else in the SNP had a case to answer.

The parliament authorities examined the political accounts each year and found everything in order.

Independent auditors examined the full accounts each year and signed them off.

To be fair after those examinations I'd say everyone in the SNP, except Murrel, had every right to think the accounts were in good order and tell everyone to fuck off.

Just to point out the Parliament authorities have no locus in party affairs so no right to interfere in the way any party is run. It's upto the SNP to get their own house in order.

Your perverting the course of justice (you are serious here, you're not just joking? It is funny though) is just nonsense.

They did lose thousand's of votes, but still secured a fifth term in power.
The opposition in Scottish politics is so poor the SNP don't even need to cover it up.

The Tartan Tories thing goes way back to the 70's when Labour shafted Scotland.

I agree with Jack that this is a party affair (unless it's found that public money was involved). Just a couple of points. The SNP auditors resigned. The National Treasurer resigned as did three members of the Finance and Audit Committee, citing not being given access to key financial documents. This should have been a huge red flag. It was after this that Nicola gave her nothing to see message. That action raised suspicion about her knowledge. Only she can answer why she did that.

Nearly £3 million of public money was used to investigate the shenanigans Archie.

I think you will find the term comes from the SNP shafting Labour and them crossing the floor to side with the Tories and usher in Thatcher…oh that was a great time to be Scottish

Labour promised the SNP a vote on Devolution then renaged on it. England voted in Maggie Thatcher, the milk snatcher.

Called for by Joanna Cherry KC ex SNP MP.

Is she joking? Is it funny? Just nonsense?

I'd suggest that as someone of her status who 5 years ago was asking serious questions, she's maybe better qualified to know. Even more than an ex civil servant or pleb like me....

Rewriting history...

She called for 'properly independent' inquiry whatever that is.

What type of properly independent inquiry would you like to see? Who would pay for it?

There was a vote on Devolution.. but there was not a large enough turn out ..there was definitely not the same drive in the 70s for independence as there is now. You are trying to rewrite history

You've no ideas then?
She actually called for was "Now that we know, by his own admission, that Murrell is both a dishonest and corrupt individual I would like the police and the Crown to investigate the evidence that he and others may have been involved in a conspiracy to pervert the course of justice without further delay."

@connerg is obviously a bit confused. The Tartan Tories was apparently Labour and there was no devolution referendum 1979. In other news the Gunts won the league....

Spot on.
1979 which had the yes vote winning.
But, a last minute amendment moved the goalposts.
